The stubborn Japanese are so anti-free trade, they are allowing 2.3 MILLION TONS of perfectly good rice to rot in warehouses. Because of their HUGE trade surplus and historical unfair trade practices, they have been required to buy rice from other countries (mainly the USA to help make up for their dumping cars on our shores). But they are so stubborn, they refuse to eat this foreign rice. But they are not allowed to sell it. SO they let it rot. Where do they get their rice? They grow their own.

This results in HUGE increases in rice prices and huge waste.

This would be like the USA or Europe's governments buying all Japanese imports, keep them off the market, store them in huge warehouses, to protect domestic auto markets. Obviously, this would greatly increase the cost of cars, reduce competition, reduce supply.

Just one example of distorted markets caused by idiotic countries like Japan who have enormous trade surpluses and cause people to starve to death .

  1. The World Trade Organization doe not allow Japan to sell the rice, so what is it supposed to do?  The American farmers would be mad if Japan sold it; it would bring rice prices down.  Japan didn't invent this system.

[P.S. I've had rice rotten in my house sometimes, so yes it can.]

  2. uhhhh, for note. rice don't rotten
