I study anthropology in Turkey. But , here , people who graduate from this department, don't work as a researcher or don't do something about anthropology. 'Cause it doesn't make money and employers don't look for an anthropologist. Also, most people don't have any idea about the meaning of anthropology. grr..

Anyway, the point is , i wanna move somewhere out of Turkey for graduate school and study there. I don't know where to start and no idea about application for schools. I had checked something from internet but i wanna hear from you guys. What's your opinion? What would you do if you were me?? Or maybe you can tell me something about graduate programme at your college?

  1. Hi Sena, Why not come to the UK. You'll have a fabulous time over here, the Brits are such a soft touch, what !  With their free health service and their social security system, it's a doddle, why they even give you pocket money if your out of work for more than a week, and, you'll have your own flat inside a couple of months. You don't really need to study if you don't feel like it because there is no such thing as having to rough it in England, so get your a*se on the next flight.

  2. No, but my great aunt and her late husband are world famous anthropologists..

they have stuff in encyclopedias and everything.

    :] pretty exciting huh!!?

  3. I think Turkey, being the crossroad of so many cultures and ethnicities throughout history, is one of the best places to study anthopology.

  4. I have studied anthropology, have even teached it and we have probably a lot of things to share. You don't tell where in Turkey you are studying or what languages you know well enough to study there. The best you have to do is to ask with what universities abroad your university is involved and to go there. It is certainly the best way to move out of Turkey to study somewhere.

Actually everywhere you look at just a few people among the anthropology graduates work as anthropologists, as researcher or university teacher. Most of them do something else. Whatever you intend to do after leaving the university, you have to ask where things you have learnt can be useful and look how to work there.

  5. Probably the UK.  There are a lot of international grad students at UK universities and the UK is one of the traditional powers in anthropology.  If you're really lucky, Turkey will join the EU before you're ready to apply and that would make it easier and cheaper for you.

  6. You can earn money by getting a job as an anthropologist in the government I think or in some organization. The best graduate schools which offer anthropology courses are probably in the nice countries.
