Do you suggest taking AP English in Freshman Year?

I am currently an incoming 8th grader who last year received straight As in an Advanced Level English class and received 100% on the state Reading (English) test. I am interested in taking AP English or AP English Literature in 9th grade and I will be discussing this will my counselor at the start of the school year. I'm not sure whether this would be too of an advanced course for freshman year but considering I am bored in the highest level of English my school offers I don't think it is that outrageous.

So my questions are;

1. Is AP English too of an advanced course for a Freshman?

2. If not, should I take English or English Literature?

3. What is the course like?

  1. You can't take that class yet because AP english is for juniors and seniors only.

But if you want take AP as junior, I say take as many ap classes as you can to bulk up so when colleges take a look at you you'll have a better chance of getting in.

  2. i would wait even if you feel like you are ready.

you still need experience in high school english before you will succeed in AP english.

and at my school, you can't take AP english until junior and senior year, so i would definitely wait.

  3. Well, you sound like a lot of other Freshman. However, you can not take AP English Freshman year. In order to take AP English you need to have taken 9th/10th grade English. It doesn't matter if English is easy for you, you still have to take 9th/10th grade English before you can take AP. It's not like English is hard for me, I'm a Sophomore and published writer/poet.

By the way, it doesn't matter if you got straight A's in middle school or 100% on the English test. You can't take AP English because you have not completed the summer homework. Each AP required summer homework and their is a test on the first day of school. Also, AP English would destroy you. Your going to be at a new school, and if you think that you are more advanced than everyone else- you're not. Their are kids who are in Junior classes as Freshman (me as well as other kids). The only way you can be in classes with older kids is if you have taken some classes early. Your in advanced English, which many kids take- you got an A. You are still not two years ahead in English, you haven't taken 9th/10th grade English. Trust me, when you get to highschool you will realize that their are genius' their (Especially in math).

I was always good at English, that's why I have been successful at it in high school. However, that doesn't allow me to take AP English. AP english is extremely rigourous. Advanced English doesn't even compare. The summerhomework is 500 pages of reading with notes, word defenitions, word charts, etc... I don't care who you THINK you are- you couldn't handle it.

    Just chill.

I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just trying to help you because I was once in your position.

Good luck in high school and throughout your future. You will succeed in academics.

  4. 1. It all depends on who the freshman is. some are lazy some are not.

I recommend you take AP English, it is a college credit, and freshman year is pretty relaxed through out the year. if you take all AP at one time or even some during sophmore or junior it become a stressful year.

So if you're welling to do all the work go for it. Freshman year is easy

  5. WELL AT MY SCHOOL WE R ONLY ALOWED TO TAKE PRE AP IONO WHT IT IS LIKE AT UR SCHOOL BUT U SEEM LIKE A SMART KID SO IF U THINK U CAN HANDLE IT THEN TAKE IT BUT ITS HARD WORK IF UR WILLIN TO DO IT THEN IM SURE U CAN ND ENGLISH IS MORE READING ND A LIL WRTING LITEATURE IS LIKE ALL WRITING SO WHITCH EVER ONE U FEEL UR MORE BETTER IN TAKE ND BY THE WAY GOOD LUCK

  6. That is a junior/senior class

And no, you really need to take 9th and 10th grade english to give you the basics. You don't know the basics of literature based courses, or even writing different types of essays. Analyzing writing doesn't come like *that*, you have to learn it.

  7. If you think you can do it do it, go for it!

If you believe, you can achieve.
