  1. I think that pay increases and all the 'little (or not so) extras' that MPs can claim should be controlled by a totally independent panel.

MPs should not be able to award themselves a pay increase above that of other public sector workers, if its good enough for nurses it should be good enough for them. They should also scrap all the other little (again, or not so) bonuses that mean their pay is well over £100,000 when you total everything they can claim up. Why do they all need a second home in London, why should they then be able to furnish it from John Lewis (have they never heard of Argos?) at the taxpayers expense, why should they be able to claim £30 A DAY for food when some families live off this amount for a week?

I could go on but i should probably go do some work to earn my average salary.

  2. Anything that helps the cause to get Labour out is good in my eyes :)

  3. farewell mr brown your time is up

  4. Absolutely!

  5. Absolutely not.

  6. They r all MP's so they will benefit from this rise.

He has only stopped a cabinet rise.

I hardly think that they will vote no, but it will be an interesting vote. Note what yr MP does.

p.s. if he was a real leader he would veto it!!!!!!

  7. No!  They are just a load of professional freeloaders takng the p*ss

  8. The PM has to stop the high level increase in MP's salaries or it will only cause more unrest within the electorate. They should also be paid expenses against invoices and the whole situation should be much more tightly controlled for we have lost faith in our elected representatives. Essentially I believe there are too many MP's for I would contend that in this age of better communication each MP should cover a wider area and the numbers could be considerably reduced. Perhaps we could then pay them more and attract a better standard of person for pay would be competitive within the higher management sector.

  9. Frankly I think that our MPs should grab every benefit to which they are entitled while they have a chance.  I mean, can anyone else think of a job more daunting than one where the employee must go before a mob of the people and ask them politely if they would not mind voting for them?

My MP works his guts off for us and for what amounts to a pittance of money with hardly any respite to recover from the rigours of being in parliament then dashing about trying to help as many people and causes as possible and then doing endless hours of constituency work and surgeries listening to people's waffle about how bad things are.  Never a dull day in the life of an MP - maybe we should try it some time.  No thanks.

Imagine sitting through endless hours of dreary boring speeches in Parliament and elsewhere, just because it's your job?  You've got to do it and you've got to put in your bit - all because one of your constituents complained about the burning of a pillow which was supposed to be fireproof but turned out to be full of duck feathers instead.

Debate in the house about banning duck feathers in pillows.

I ask you!  What sort of life is this?
