Do you support the Fairness Doctrine? Or, would you rather support the Broadcasters Freedom Act?

First, do you even know what the Fairness Doctrine is? Its a policy that was first introduced years ago but has since been dropped. Now Nancy Pelosi and liberals would like to see it become law.

Basically, the Fairness Doctrine would require radio and tv stations to broadcast shows that would present opposite views to ones that they already air. This is not just giving free air time to someone who wants to state their opinion. This is about shows that would require advertisement to support their airing.

If this sounds okay, think about this. Why do you suppose there are so many conservative talk shows on the radio now? Could it be that they get the ratings to attract the advertisers? Have you seen what happens to liberal-view shows that have tried to air, such as Al Franken (excuse spelling if I got it wrong) and Air America? There are no sponsors!

There are already a lot of media source for the liberals to get their message across. Movies. TV shows. Talk shows like Ellen has and like Rosie had. Entertainment shows like Saturday Night Live. Cable shows like the ones on Comedy Central. Cable news stations like CNN and MSNBC. Newspapers like the New York Times. If the proposed law wants to give equal time to opposite views, shouldn't this law also be applied to these liberal medias?

This is just another way to limit the freedom of speech. This is the kind of law that one would find in Communist China. Or don't you agree?

  1. In China, the state's official line is the only one that may be broadcast.  You would never see a proposal to mandate coverage of all sides of an issue in China.  You just undercut your whole argument by demonstrating a failure to master your own topic, my friend.

  2. No, I don't support it. Unlike the Democrats who created it, I believe in freedom of speech.

  3. The Fairness Doctrine is not new.  It has been tried before.  It didn't work then and it won't work now.  It is simply the attempt by the Democrats to silence their opposition.  They believe they know what's best for you and me and what you and I need to hear and what they think we need to hear is that "your government is here to help you".  Incidentally, all government help is paid for by everyone of us. The government only prints money, we earn it and they take it.

  4. 'Fairness Doctrine' is Unfair. People ought to be able to listen to what they want to listen. There is a reason no one listens to Al Franken's Talk radio. He sucks!

If we insist on FD, why not have a "Fairness Doctrine' on NPR  - "Fresh Air" has to have an anti-Clinton/Obama guest every time they have an anti-Bush on? Why not insist that  Oliver Stone HAS to make a movie condemning a Democratic President each time he makes one that Blasts a Republican one?

I like listening to Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity. I would simply stop listening to radio if I am forced to listen to Oberman and Franken. But that exactly is the idea behind "Fairness Doctrine".
