  1. The only thing you need to take to the hospital for your baby is the going-home outfit.  The hospital has everything else you could need and they give you a lot of it to take home.

  2. you don't need to take bottles, formula or any other baby supplies with you to the hospital.    The hospital will provide those items.     the only thing that you would need to take would be your car seat to transport the baby home in, an outfit you want for him to wear home or if you want, outfits to wear in the hospital, and a receiving blanket or two for the ride home.

more than likely your milk will come in.    keep trying.     it's easier for some than others.    if you have problems, the hospital will have a lactation specialist available to consult with.      If you are unable to nurse your baby, it's not the end of the world.    Plenty of babies thrive and do well with formula.       If you are tense and nervous, you will have more problems nursing.

    Congratulations and good luck!

  3. The hospital gives you the formula if you have a problem...they even ask you which one you want them to feed the baby...and the first few days, what comes out is called colostrum, which is VERY important for the baby, because it's got alot of nutrients & antibodies...but it looks weird, because it's not white, it's yellow-ish, so don't freak out...good luck momma!!!

  4. Your milk will come in a few days after birth- and that's normal. You do not need to suppliment with formula until then. Your b*****s have colostrum in them, and no matter what any nurses/doctors tell you- it is enough for your baby until your milk comes in. Babies aren't really hungry the first few days of life, anyway. They have a very strong sucking reflex, but not very much hunger. Their tummies are the size of walnuts, so it doesn't take much to fill them up.

Don't worry about having breastfeeding problems. You'll do just fine. Make sure you get in contact with a BOARD CERTIFIED lacation consultant (sometimes the LC's in the hospital aren't really that educated on breastfeeding) to answer any questions you might have.

Read up on breastfeeding- get educated. That's your best "defense" to "breastfeeding problems". You won't need to suppliment with formula, I promise. Everything will be just fine!

    Good luck, mama!

  5. babies are born with stores of fat so they don't need anything at all for the first few days.  a mother's first milk is called colostrum.  it's clear and oily.  it's very dense with calories and fat, so even a few drops is enough to keep a baby healthy.  a baby can live on colostrum alone for weeks.  your milk won't be "in" yet, but it's plenty to feed your baby with.

http://www.kellymom.com/bf/start/index.h... tells you what to expect for the first few days of nursing.

if something does go horribly wrong, which is very unlikely, the hospital will have formula.  there will be nurses trying to shove a bottle of canned c**p in your baby's face from the beginning.  you might have to fight them off.  people will be trying to sabotage you left and right with bottles of formula, so don't help them by sabotaging yourself.  if you do need to give some formula because the hospital staff has bullied you into it, insist on feeding with a medicine dropper or a tube or even a spoon so that it won't cause any problems with your baby's latch.

  6. No they will provide it for you.

  7. No, you don't need to bring any with you. If there are any problems the hospital will supply it while you are there and sometimes send you home with some.

Your milk doesn't usually come in until a day or two later, but they benefit from the nutrients in the colostrum. Newborns actually don't need milk right after they are born.

  8. Formula is usually provided in the hospital.

  9. The hospital provides all the formula you could ever need while there, and usually they will even send you home with some.
