Do you talk to an Aircraft Dispatcher on COM2?

If not, what the h**l is COMM 2 used for?? LOL

  1. It's actually quite useful.  For example, one pilot can continue to talk to ATC while the other one gets ATIS.  We also use it to call the ground station before we land to let them know if we need wheelchairs, etc. for any passengers.  Oh yeah, and if we need some bad advice we can use it to call dispatch, too :)


  2. Yes. When you don't need it to talk to dispatch, it is normally tuned to the emergency (guard) frequency.

    It's also handy if Com1 breaks for some reason! It's a regulatory requirement for some planes (like commercial ones) to have 2 radios.

  3. I dunno. But as soon as I figure that one out I gotta get to work on our com 3. Then there's HF 1 and HF 2. And ya think thats bad, took me nine years flying helicopters for the army before I figured out the need for VHF 1 and 2, UHF 1 and 2 and FM 1 and 2.

  4. Its purpose is to monitor another freq simutaneously...

    But Jim has accurately described its actual usefulness...lol
