Contrary to one of the other responses, "the right person" on a 125 is hardly ever going to beat out someone on a 250F.  The new four-strokes put out far more torque and bottom end than 2-strokes and are now overall more powerful and just as quick.  The skilled rider on a 250F can outride a skilled rider on a 250 7 or 8 times out of 10.  Want proof? Go to a track. Look at how many people are on four-bangers and notice how many chainsaws there arent.  Look at professional AMA motocross, no more 2-strokes.  The new 4-strokes are the wave of the future, and some manufacturers have already stopped making certain 2-stroke models.

well i had an 05 cr125 and an 04 kx125 and idc what people say cr125 kx125 and yz125 are almost the exact same bikes when it comes to performance i have been riding for 6 years and racing for 4 and i just recently moved from C class to B now i got a yz250f and it is tramendously faster than my 125's it has ALOT more bottom end and just as much top end the only thing is it is a bit heavier and a less agile bike and like the comment above me there is very few people racing 125's nowdays this year they has only been one 125 in my class and nobody rides 250 2 strokes anymore either their almost all 450f's and the 85 2 strokes are even changing to crf150r's and supposibly kawasaki is comming out with a 150f motocross bike but no a 125 will not compare to the power of a 250f

There is no comparison at all, go the 250, if you opt for the 125 you will only want a bigger bike

its not the bike, its the rider....

the yz 250 f makes more torque and can out power the 125, but the 125, in the hands of the right person, can beat someone riding a 250f....
