  1. It's going to get worse. Prices have been rising but nothing compared to the near future. Runaway inflation is the norm. Once the interest rates go up and credit tightens I think it will send us over the edge. American economic failures are sure to set a chain reaction across the world. China will enter a depression, maybe a great depression. Thier growth is fully dependant on Dollars artificially stimulating thier employment/productivity. They take those dollars and buy gov't bonds with them which finances our debt. My guess is that soon after the Olympics things will start to go bad globally in earnest. The Fed/Treasury can't artificially prop the dollar much longer than Election 08. January of 09 could be the end of denial.

Are you in a position to profit from the economy getting worse?

  2. Depends on what you think the price of oil will do. If oil continues to decrease or plateau, the economy will do better. If oil rises, the economy will continue to struggle.

With regards to the first answer, Americans do have a huge mountain of debt, federally and personally. This will be difficult to overcome, but shouldn't hurt us economically as long as our economy continues to grow. The cost of fuel is a larger factor.

Personally, I think the economy will get better. Over the next few years, the mortgage mess will work itself out.

We have been in a bust cycle for a little while now, it will be followed by a boom cycle, particularly with increased foreign investment and increased exports due to the weak dollar.

  3. I think that even if the economy got better, it would still be bad and many americans would still be in debt especially with prices of gas which causes everything else to go up in price as well
