  1. The mentality of Saudi men is slowly changing to a more open minded, if you go to a mall in Jeddah you can clearly see women not wearing head scarfs or their abaya is partially opened, and eventually women will drive in Saudi because the government supports women to work and have a job.

But I think if you are expecting to see big changes in 5 years then this is not gonna happen, it's still too early for that.

  2. One friend of mine told me something .He said  to me that  : The government  will not allow women to drive until such  situation where it  will make no difference if they drive or not ( Typical Government  Style)....and others say it is soon,,..Between the two , make your best bet...The way I see it (and I am a Saudi ).I can't see any  major change in society  that  will  allow women to have more rights such as Driving .Females until now are not allowed to enter government building  or to work there side by side with men. There is segregation everywhere you go even in parks  ,,Ladies are not encouraged to uncover faces to be identified..The "Mutawwa "supported by religious police   is after them in shopping mall  to cover faces by force ,,So that gives little hope for a  real change ........................... As for the Abbaya thing ,,we see it is getting worse in some cities ..Some ladies  got  this new  invention of Abbaya that covers everything  even the hands of the lady  and it is cone shaped  ...Those ladies if you happen to be a relative to them to  know them better ,don't even follow Islam moral genuinely  .They treat their maids horribly   and not involved in charity work  or any other social work...

  3. For Saudi women not to wear abayah? They are Muslim, so I doubt that anyone would even discuss not wearing abayah as being better, as the whole society wouldnt accept it.

Driving? Probably soon things will change. I doubt they would exclude weekends and those are all rumers. Its silly to allow foriegn men to drive them and not let them drive themselves.

Quite frankly I think its very possible that they are no longer hesitant about it, except for traffic reasons. I mean the traffic is horrible the way it is. Imagine the number of cars suddenly increasing %50?

Thats what happens when their beurocracies let problems accumilate ; they become compound and more complicated problems.

  4. I think its quite possible because wearing casual clothes and driving in public is not forbidden by Islam

So any changes can take place if it is not forbidden by Islam

  5. Driving - They're currently working on this issue.  From what I've heard, women over 30 will be able to get a driver's license soon.  They will have to go to a driving school, and they have to carry a cell phone.  If they have any problems, they will have a number to call for help.  Also, I read that women won't be allowed to drive on weekends.  I know it all sounds unfair, but it has to be one step at a time, and I'm sure they're thinking about the safety of the women.

  6. well.. the religious women won't leave it because that is in our religion.
