Question:

Do you think, without a doubt, a boy by the name of David would get called Dave?

I dislike the name Dave, but the name David takes me back to the childhood of which I adore. Do you think this name is far too common, and therefore...boring/plain? I do feel that my future son would be called Dave, and I just feel that it would be difficult for him to go by ONLY 'David' without getting picked on. If I were to go with this name, I was thinking of pairing it with either the name Andrew, Jack (both dating back to my childhood,) or Alexandros. Please assist me. Also, please don't forget to tell me which middle name you like. I'm open to other middle names that you may like, too. I thank you so much!

  1. no, if he don't wanna be called Dave he won't be.

i know someone named Daniel and nobody ever calls him Dan.

don't worry, if you like it, go for it.

    David Alexander is cute :-)

  2. my dads name was david and he NEVER got called Dave, he got called sam instead LOL and the name sam has NOTHING to do with his name!

  3. He will unless

    a) the father's name is Dave (not david)

    b) he insists on David

c)You spell it different like Daved or Davidd or Davvid

    d) His middle name is Jason (so he'll be DJ)

It's not a boring name, it's prideful.  Besides there are  lot if doctor davids.

  4. no all the davids i know are called completely david and they are pretty cool kids i would go with David Alexander

  5. No it doesn't have to be that way. If you want it to be david then just nicley correct people when they say it wrong while he was young and then let him decide what he wants to be called when hes older.

    Jack David is really cute!

  6. David Alexander is a great name.

Some others that you might like are -

    David Nathaniel

    David Bradley

    David Orlando

    David Zachary

    David Shawn

    :-)

  7. Ya I love the name Gracelyn but i don't like the name grace or gracie maybe every once and a while

  8. david is boring and common

    dont like it

  9. David is a very plain and common name, but then again, it's a lot better than a crazy name like some people are using lately. Have you considered using it as a middle name. That way you don't have to worry about it turning into Dave.

    Jackson David- nickname Jack

    Alexander David

  10. No, I don't think a child by the name of David would need to end up being called Dave.

My nephew is Christopher (10 years), and is still called by his full name. My son is Matthew (4 years), and also goes by Matthew (he does NOT like to be called Matt!!)

David is NOT a boring/plain name - it is a strong, classic, masculine name :-)

David Alexander is my favorite :-)

    David Thomas

    David Nicholas

    David Michael

    David Xavier (pronounced X-A-V-er)

    HTH :-)

  11. I'm sure people would call him Dave at least at some point. We've got a daughter Gracie, but people call her Grace all the time and I don't like it either, but you've just got to deal with it. You could maybe name him Alexander David. Then you could call him David when you talk to him, but he's got some options when he gets older of what he wants to be called. I know a number of people who go by their middle name.

  12. I don't think that this name should be altered as its the name of a Prophet. Though, if he wants to get called Dave then there is no problem. Dave (Dev) is usually a name used in India for men. But David is a nice name. If he wants to be called with the name Dave, then there is not any problem.

  13. IMO, yeah, David is very plain. And you can bet he'll get called Dave at least now and then, people always shorten names like that.

Suggestions for middle names: Emmett, Oliver, Vincent, Jimbob?

  14. I prefer the name David to Dave as well. I know someone who i was introduced to as David, but now he wants to go by Dave, but I just cant call him that because to me he's David. I don't think he will be called Dave unless he is introduced as such.

I really like David Andrew as a name. :)

  15. Honestly, I like the name David.  And I have a very hard time with people automatically calling me Alex, as my name is Alexandra.  I don't like it, but if you politely tell a person not to call you by a short nickname, it usually works.

One of my friend's name is David and he has never had issues with people calling him Dave, it's just always been David.  So, I don't think there's much to worry about.

And I personally like the name Andrew...of course that might be biased, as my boyfriend's name is Andrew.  I've always liked it though.

  16. no, if he wants to be called David he'll be called David. Sure, every once in a while someone will call him Dave, but unless he likes that name it won't stick. As for middle names, anything but alexandros, he would be teased incessantly if his middle name  was alexandros.

  17. I have A brother David and he is grown and married and he never gets Dave when anybody called him dave we always said id so they would get the hint,I like Wayne with David / David Wayne. in my home we have all d's There is 2 Dennis- then David- then Darrell -Dougie- then me Debra of course me and Douglas got the nicknames and there stuck to us me Debbie and him Dougie I like my real name Debra but to late now I am to old to change it back every body know's me by Debbie.

  18. David Alexander and David Andrew are great. No I don't think that people would call him Dave if you don't want them to.
