Question:

Do you think America is going deeper and deeper into becoming a police state?

The absence of a police state is that people are free, and if you don't commit crimes you can do what you want. But today, you can't open up a business, you can't develop land, you can't go to the bank, you can't go to the doctor without the government knowing what you're doing. They talk about medical privacy, that's gone. Financial privacy, that's gone. The right to own property, that's essentially gone.

Ben Franklin said:"Those that would sacrifice Freedom for Security deserve neither." How does that make u feel about the patriot act?

  1. i dont know about police state but definately not free. more like  a dictatorship,

  2. anarchy

  3. Drug dealers do it

  4. you are all over the place here.

some of this stuff NEEDS regulations.  i wouldn't call it a police state.

the only one i hear preaching the whole "one world" thing is Mr. Obama.

one of the left's big complaints is that GWB doesn't give a rip what the rest of the world thinks.  sounds pretty American to me.  the exact opposite of the whole one world thing.  i own property and my med and financials are secure.  so maybe it's just you, or perhaps your perception.

    EDIT:yeah.....not feelin' it......

  5. I am not threatened now nor will ever be by the Patriot Act.  The only thing I see that I don't like a whole lot are the freaking cameras everywhere I go these days.

  6. There are laws that are a direct threat, including the Military Commissions Act passed just before the election. It specifically violates constitution. Article 1 Section 9, by suspending habeas corpus. 5th Amendment, by allowing coerced and compelled self-incrimination. 6th Amendment, denial of counsel. 6th Amendment, right to confrontation. 6th Amendment, right to present witnesses. 8th Amendment, cruel and unusual punishment. 8th Amendment, denial of bail hearing. 5th Amendment, due process.

So, the question is -- when can the government just ignore the requirements of the constitution because they think it MIGHT make people safer?
