  1. No.  I remember when we were supposed to be converted, but I guess too many people were against it.  All I know is that the metric system is 'supposed' to be a bit more accurate...who knows?

  2. Lol, it's not so much that we don't realize the metric system's advantages, and believe me many people do, especially the scientific community, but there really is no feasible way to adopt the metric system that doesn't require us to change legislation, and how all American math and science classes are run.

It can probably be accomplished even on this a big scale, but I don't foresee it happening anytime soon really, until it posses to big a problem to the American public.

  3. The ironic things is, any standard of engineering is done in metric.

But many things are already hybrid imperial/metric. Berrings you get for you vehicle, typically are imperial for interior and metic for exterior..  When you buy a tire, the radius is in inches, yet the width is in metric (mm's)  Buy a bottle of pop, and you purchase a 2 liter.

It will just take time.  I remember when Canada switched over, it really wasn't that difficult, but even still, I talk distances in miles and kilometers, weight in pounds and kilograms... I really don't think much of it.

I think anyone that has used the metric system knows the advantages.  It just comes down to plain old stubbornness.  The USA is the last standing bastion of the old imperial system.

    In time they will.

  4. That's a pretty elitist statement.  As someone in the medical field, I work with both all the time.  The metric isn't so advantageous, just different.  There is no reason why we can't use both.
