  5. I'm kind of stunned by the obdurate negativity of your responses. I've had a lot of these debates in my own mind, and no one ever really wins it so I can't say that I'll stomp in here and tell them all what-for, but I will say that I am a huge fan of Bob Dylan (I like Neil Young more, should we open that line of debate?). I think that the best of Bob Dylan is genius and the worst is still pretty good. Personally, I like his singing and I think it is inaccurate to say that he can't sing. Certainly he knows what to do with a tune and he hits what needs to be hit. If you don't like the way he sounds in the process that is about you and not him. In fact, people's attitudes about that support the idea of Dylan standing with the greats as well as any supportive thing that I could muster would. The masses historically think that the greats are freaks. So, HEY MASSES, Dylan is a great whether you like him or not. Personal taste is not the issue. The issue is whether one person can use their talent and vision to create a recognizable lexicon that stands on its own and serves as a touchstone. Dylan is fortunate enough to receive some of that recognition during his life, but even if he hadn't that wouldn't have changed a thing. I do believe that Dylan will stand as an important figure in American culture, long after his death. Whether he will attain immortality I am not prepared to say, but I do think that the possibility exists.

P.S. I liked the video. Thanks for posting.

  6. Nah. He's a typical Hemingway "Ah, nobody is any good" and "Negative is smarter than positive" b ser. Now, he is perhaps the most profound of songwriters, but he hasn't done too well since the late 70s. He will be remembered for great works but minor poetry.

  7. Van Gogh will remain a legend long after Bob Dillion's music is stored in some electronic library, and forgotten.

  8. He is a fantastic wordsmith,do you think he will ever learn to sing?
