  1. No it is not a cruel sport. It is a physical sport like wrestling, football, and rugby. If we call one sport cruel then call the others cruel as well. There is some athleticism in boxing. It is a good cardio workout and development of hand eye coordination.

  2. no.  itd only be cruel if boxers were forced to fight.  theyre not.  they do it cos they get paid shed loads of money

  3. Not necessarily a cruel sport, but certainly one that can have devastating results.

A question that has sparked a lot of debate in Lansing, MI after 12 year old Juan Contreras was left in a coma after his second sanctioned fight.

  4. What kind of question is this?  Boxing is what it is (um... its boxing).  The goal is pretty clear cut.  If one decides to become a boxer, you KNOW what you are 'signing up for'.  Your question is very relative and subjective.

  5. Yes.

The people invovled in boxing are ignorant of the consequences of what they are doing.  ALL boxers suffer permanent brain injuries, it is no laughing matter.

I have also seen similar injury in American Football, particularly with linebackers.

  6. Hey Pal

I would say more brutal than cruel as nobody forced them into the ring, and what concerns me is the afermath, and unfortunately it is a sport that does generate large revenue for many greedy unsrupulous people, and i'm sure we are all well aware what lengths people will go to for the love of money.

Unfortunately i think in whatever format it's here to stay.

Sorry to be a damp squid.

    Take care and be well

  7. No, next question...

  8. no

  9. No i don't, i have followed boxing since i was a youngster, amateur fights through to professional and would rather watch a boxing match than football any day. Its only dangerous when boxers go on to long, which sadly many do, when you consider the money that is involved in the big fights.

  10. lmao, no, this made me laugh

  11. Of course it is.

They are willing to risk their own - and their opponent's - health and possible brain damage - for money.

Admittedly though, they don't have to do it, so that leaves only themselves to blame.

If they did in the streets what they do in the ring, they would be locked up.

  12. Boxing is a sport of men . Men like to test them selves against other men that is what men do. Is it cruel no is it brutal yes the people that you see on TV boxing are different than most people you see walking around in the streets these people are built to take it most people find out real fast if this is the sport for them. Can you get hurt in the sport yes but is it worse than football no. I,ve played both  at a hi level and it is not close I,ve never seen a fighter get his neck broken and I have seen many football players get their necks broken

  13. They are hardly forced to play are they lol.

  14. No. In my opinion, calling boxing cruel would be like comparing it to dog fighting. In dog fighting, some of those dogs fight to the death or fight to the point of injury that is beyond full recovery. If boxing was cruel, then there would be no need to referees monitoring and uphold the rules or medical physicans being at ringside to check out the fighters.

  15. I take this as a moral question, and will respond with an objective answer.

To start with, the answer is yes.  It's not hard to come up with ways to call boxing cruel.  However the reality of the situation is that it is not as cruel as the world we live in.  Humans hold their niche on earth because they are extremely proficient at killing and defending themselves from being killed.  We are programmed to do this.  Humans started out as hunter gatherers.  If our societies collapsed, we could once again be hunter gatherers.  With our huge population, water, food, and other resources would be limiting factors.  Many people would die.  Only the strongest, and best competitors would survive.

Interest in things like boxing are due to this reality.  The world is a cruel place.  People who deny this and don't embrace it in a reasonable manner will be less likely to contribute to the gene pool in many circumstances.

It would be nice if things weren't so cruel, but thats reality.  Embrace it, or be ignorant.
