I personally that since they own the patent they should be entitled to some compensation on the most sucessful ball in history. Acushnet has some real deep pocket's though.

  1. Not a chance.  It's one of the best golf balls produced.

  2. No one will win a suit against Acushnet, given they have over 50% of all golf balls sold.  Callaway better have their A game LOL.

Check out Golf.com for an exhausting article on golf balls.  There is only about 8 yards difference (distance wise) at 95 mph clubhead speed with the same club in any golf ball, high end or otherwise (except the Nike One Platinum, but later).

The real meat of a ball is when it's used around the green, where everyone can use more help.  The Nike One Platinum spins about 13,000 rpms (w/ SW at 76 mph) while a typical 2-piece ball spins about 5,000-7,000 rpms at the same swing specs.

Callaway and Titleist both make good balls, but so does Nike.  According to Rock Ishii (head of Golf Balls @ Nike) the One Platinum is more for a Tiger-ish player, someone with clubhead speed over 105 mph and a flatter swing arc.

  3. I read Callaway won't have a chance to do anything really...

And... A good ball can help anyone. Not just 3-5 percent of golfers out there as another poster suggested.

Anyone with a wedge and wants to improve their short game will benefit by a ball that spins and stops. It's better than a ball that lands your distance and runs off the green like so many other 'cheaper' balls do.

Putting rocks isn't fun either and a soft ball like the ProV1 or NXT Extreme adds feel to an already tough part of the game.

I used to believe cheap balls were the way to go. And yes, starting out, losing balls, hitting the ball without knowing your distances - sure, a cheap ball gets you to the 19th hole with your friends.

But once you want to improve whether you're a single digit or a 20+ handicapper, a good ball around the green can help get you from barely making 100 to breaking 90...

It's all about the short game and if you have more control of it, you have more opportunity for low scores.

  4. No, and I really do not think they would want too, Callaway makes a great high end ball also.  That and with all high end balls, they are really only for about 3-5% of the golfers out there, not everyone will benefit from these balls.  But I think Titleist and Callaway both make great high end balls overall, Nike, on the other hand, does not...

  5. i hope not. i love pro v's they've so much better than any other ball i've ever used.
