Asking this question young Price will have big shoes to fill....but can he do it? He has a better career in the minors and has won a medal and championship with the bulldogs....but can he bring Montreal a cup. The next hockey god for Montreal?

  1. Only if they put the same team in front of him as they did for Roy. Otherwise he will be the next Roggie Vachon.

  2. You mean to win a couple of Cups, then have a temper tantrum when you give up 6 goals in a game and ask to be traded??

who knows....he's a good young goalie, but much to be proven to be called the next "patrick"

  3. The next Patrick Roy has been Martin Brodeur for about 15 years. Absolutley no doubt in my mind, Marty is the greatest goalie of all--time. And even though he swept my wings in 95 in the Stanley cup, I've always been in awe of him.

  4. No. The shoes are 10 sizes too big..and he's not nearly on the same level Patrick Roy was, and I really don't seem him coming even remotely close. He's a great YOUNG goalie, but Patrick Roy was arguable THE BEST.

  5. good question only time will tell

  6. no but they might win the cup.

  7. I think that a lot of us get burned by making goalie predictions (anyone here remember talk about Luongo????).... I think Price is very talented but I have questions about development in Montreal and as good as Price is he needs polish.  If Price becomes another Roy then I don't expect him to see signs of greatness in Montreal.

He's very talented though but I think someone like him needs strong defensemen around him.... and a strong forechecking around him to achieve greatness.  You don't get great by yourself.

  8. Nobody will be the next Patrick Roy, but I can see a respectable career with oh say, 200+ wins, a career GAA under 3, about 40 shutout's, a Vezina and 2 stanley cups.

  9. h**l no!  He did great this season, but choked in the playoffs.  For sure he's NOT the next Patrick Roy, BUT he is a promising young player for Montreal and he's definitely proven he can be their number one goalie.  He might just end up like Cam Ward - he was stellar for the Hurricanes in 2006, but who's talking about him now?

  10. no way.  look at price's rookie season vs. roy's:

roy: unexpectedly led his team into the plaoyffs, led the team to a cup win in his first year, winning the conn smythe trophy and being named to the all-rookie team.

price: unexpectedly lead his team into the playoffs, where he got scared, was the sole reason the boston series took 7 games, and was a huge contributor to my flyers winning the series.

the "next roy" comparisons should end soon.  the best ones clearly don't get cold feet at all.  look at the best players.  they turn everything around from day one.  clearly price was not able to do that.

he will, however, be a very, very good goaltender in the coming years.  just not patrick roy, martin brodeur, bernie parent, etc.  he'll just be carey price, which will be darn good enough.

then again, he was playing in philly.  we have a tendency to scare the **** out of people.  i was there, i should know.

  11. No, I think he has too much class for that.

He'll be good, but not that good

gotta give credit where credit's due, but I still hate the guy (Roy)
