  1. yes totally. Not too long ago i was still in school...we only had 1/2 an hour to eat lunch adn recess. its about 7-8 min to get the food another 10 to choke on it and 10 min to walk arround outside....it really sucked.

  2. No

  3. Yes, especially high-school students. We only get a ten-minute break, after we've eaten our stuff, that's it. The bell's gone. They don't give us enough time out there!

  4. Sorta... its good for the body, but then you got them running for about an hour. They get tired and don't want to do their work. So its a no and yes situation.

  5. Yes, because children love it and I think at that age, they need to learn how to mingle with others more than the academic ones

  6. Yes, I think that elementary school kids should have at least forty minutes of recess a day. Furthermore, I think that kids up to eighth grade should have some form of recess; eleven years old is still a bit young to sit in school all day and have no break besides lunch.

Children need unstructured time in their school day because learning is a reflective process; forcing a child to read something and then giving them no time to think about it is highly detrimental to their learning process--they need to, you know, PROCESS the information. Periodic recesses give them a chance to do this, as well as a time to socialize with their peers, play games, and have fun.

Kids need to be kids, not information-spouting robots. School is for more than just learning; playing and socializing are just as important as academics, if not more so. Therefore, kids should be given adequate recess time during the school day.

  7. NO.  school is for learning not playing.  school is to prepare for the future.  how is recess preparing them to enter the workforce. i don't baby my kids.

  8. yes, and I think they need less of schools trying to make a profit off them with the c**p they sell in the lunch rooms.

They are taking away sports time in schools, so they need to replace it with something.Teachers don't seem to want to teach much anymore and send it all home to get done.

  9. More? Maybe. Kids can't sit ALL day and be expected to pay attention. If kids at a certain school are not paying enough attention I would suggest that they expand the amount of time that is Recess. When I was in school though, I think we have enough time, but since they are expecting kids to do more, I think I might be a good idea in the future.

  10. It would depend on how much time they have right now.  Coming from both a teacher's side and a parent's side I can tell you that they do need some recess everyday but it is hard to get everything in that needs to be done each day.

Sometimes a lesson will take longer than expected.  Also I know some schools require a certain amount of time spent on each subject each day.  Add in lunch, specials and you will be surprised how fast the day goes by.

If they can't go outside for recess then it is nice if they can find some gym time to let them exercise.

  11. No, because life is not a game and they shouldn't be made to believe all there is to it is fun and goofing off.

  12. I think they should have two a day to get there energy out of them so they can learn better. Any other exercises can be done with there family. Our family plays racket ball, swimming, bike riding, tennis, walks, etc.

  13. no.  they can run and play when school is over.  school is for learning.

  14. Yes because they're children. I also don't think they shouldn't have to get up at the butt crack of dawn to go to school. Their little brains are probably still asleep at that time.

  15. As a 3rd grade teacher, I definitely think children need more of both structured and unstructured recess.  In an era where the toys do all the work, kids are losing the ability to think creatively.  Having more unstructured playtime during the school day would help this.  Given the childhood obesity rate in our country, having more structured recess would help as well.  My state mandates that children receive a certain amount of structured physical activity every week.
