  1. I think China overachieved this time around.  They probably won't have as many gold medals and medals overall in 2012 as they did in 2008.  So they won't have more medals than the U.S., but I do think they will still have more gold medals than the U.S.  There is the possibility than eventually China will surpass the U.S. in total medals if they can improve in athletics, which Liu Xiang was trying to inspire Chinese citizens to do.

  2. Should be able to, or it may be a very close competition between the 2 nations.  Since joining the olympics in 1984, China has progressed steadily through each olympics competition, and China still dominates in events like table-tennis, badminton, diving, gymnastics, etc, while making great strides in shooting, archery, swimming, beach volleyball, boxing, and those kayakking events.

  3. There's a lot to improve. I think the 10 point gap will be even closer in London.

  4. They sure can if they want, but I don't think they will try as hard as this time around.

    Good job to China anyway!

  5. i dont know, but americas bitchin right now

  6. I don't think so although they might get more gold like this time.

  7. Any country could get more medals.

  8. Nope

  9. Depends on if the Chinese olympic program funds the athletes like they did this time.  but know that now that they are a super power in the olympics up there with USA and Russia those two will start working harder to get past them.  i don't think the chinese will surpass the US or Russia next time due to the lack of funding that they will put in because they just wanted one perfect olympics and they got it.  the chinese don't necessarily want to be number one just as long as they did it one.

  10. No. China fields a powerful Olympic team but being the host country adds a little more incentive to give your best in front of the home folks. In 2012 that won't be the case so I don't think they will be quite as successful as now.

  11. idk maybe

  12. I think they may well do so.. it is commonplace for countries to do well in the games following their home olympics..ie Spain, Australia...

this is largely a result of training programmes and infrastructure being put into place that has long term benefits...

and their placing these games will give them incentive as they will now feel they are able to compete on a level with the USA, Russia etc

but as has been said this will also provide incentives to others, with the USA wanting to reclaim the top spot and other nations seeing they can be taken on..

bring on 2012 I say... with the Chinese wanting to consolidate, the USA wanting to regain no1, the Brits injecting so much effort into their home games and small nations such as Jamaica feeling they can achieve well in areas such as the track it should be a great competition

  13. If they do it will be at the cost of other countries.  The US has performed just as well in this olympics as previous olympics.

  14. China vs USA doesn't matter to me.  But almost always, a

country which just hosted an olympics does not get as many

in the next one.  No more home cooking.
