They could, but it is not in their economic or financial favor to do so. Last night on Primetime life, Woodruff addressed this very issue with the Chinese officials. They are dependent on the American consumer purchasing their goods economically to fuel their own economic growth. Take a look at the program on the ABC website for further clarification, it is really rather fascinating what they have been doing behind the scenes, especially with all of the Treasury Notes they have been purchasing.
