Question:

Do you think Collingwood and Pieterson's belligerent display has turned the third test match on it's head?

Effectively, 21 - 4 in their second innings; Collingwood and Pieterson certainly took the attack to the Protea's.

This was possibly the finest England have played since the summer of 2005.

Do England now have a genuine chance of winning? The note of caution being that it will still only be a fourth day wicket tomorrow.

What do test match fans think?

  1. As it stands now England have a fighting chance to force a win.  Lot wiwll depend upon as to how their bowlers perform and the pitch behaves on 4th and 5th days.

  2. Its certainly given England a fighting chance. It all depends on how they bat tomorrow and how they bowl. If SA wrap it up quickly tomorrow..they have a great chance to go up 2-0 chasing about 250 runs.

  3. pieterson played bad shor

  4. All belligerance of Paul Collingwood is when Dale Steyn is not there in the SAF team. Any way, the match is still evenly poised. I expect SAF to win the match.

The relative strengths of SAF's bowling are: Dale Steyn (863); Robin J Peterson (857, not playing); Morne Morkel (586); Andre Nel (470); Paul Harris (460); Ntini (417); Johan Botha (295); Jacques Kallis (228). So, we know what happens if Steyn is not there. Paul Collingwood scores a century.

  5. they play really well in pressure..

  6. I'm not sure it's turned on it's head the contest has seemed pretty even from the first Ball.

I'm not sure how those numbers were achieved tha vsssarma has there, but it is fair to say SAf is lessened without Steyn.  But you still need to make runs regardless of who is chucking the pill around.

But Collingwood has made better scores against better opposition.  Double hundred in Adelaide. And he is still improving.  I like the way he plays cricket.  Collingwood for Best player of the 2010. I predict.

    *crosses fingers*

  7. That display reminded me of the great 2005 Ashes series!! so emotional!! so much spirit. Boy England do make cricket entertaining!!

After woeful display by Cook and Bell!! (was there any need for those pull shots) England showed tremendous spirit to fight back in the test match!!. Like you said we were effectively 20 odd for 4!! but once again Pietersen shows what a high class player he is!, Pietersen's knock was one of the most entertaining pieces of batsmanship i have seen for a long time. Unfortunately he got out to the dreadful Harris!!

Collingwood was so edgy early on! BUT he was showing signs of regaining some sort of form!! After a quiet start Colli played a tremendously atttacking innings full of character and emotion!! and wow it was so important

Has the game been turned on its head?

Nope South Africa are still the favourites!! if KP & Colli had stayed there longer, then YES England would have turned the game around. BUT we need to add another 70 or 80 runs tomorrow (at least) to get ourselves into a winnable position!!

I think pundits are mis-reading the pitch, some pundits are saying that the pitch is now flat, i think that is nonesense!! I believe the pitch will still help the seam bowlers, with regards to swing and seam movement and Monty should get a bit of turn out of it.

South Africa are favourites from this stage, but if Colli and Amby survive the new-ball tomorrow and add another 80 runs, then England have a huge chance of winning the test match (remember 214 is the highest chase ever made at Edgbaston)

All i know is, i cant wait to watch it!!

    EDIT- Pukebob

Get this little chip off your shoulder!! If you actually SAW the match you would see that Cook & Bell THREW AWAY there wickets, whilst Vaughan was out to an excellent catch!! how can you fault any player who got out to an excellent catch??

    Get over it

and yeah i can do thumbs down's too! mate!!

  8. A lot depends on how Collingwood and Ambrose see off the new ball.  If they can manage to put up at least another 100 - 120, then we have a good chance.  But its important not to post a to higher score because we all know SA are capable of batting for 2 days and forcing a draw.  Lets hope that all the bowlers can come to the party and manage to bowl SA out, not been too good at doing that so far this series, mind, that was without Freddie's contribution, did you see the battle between him and Callis?  Those few overs made this match worth watching!

  9. Woeful display by Cook and Bell, according to Kookee. Who was responsible for the 231 first innings score. NO contribution from Vaughan the useless in either innings. Under the current captaincy it is all down hill.
