Do you think Cruises are safe to go on from Crime?

I am a travel agent and sell cruises? your feedback please

I have been on almost 20 cruises on four different cruise lines; Princess, Celebrity, Norwegian and Royal Caribbean. Contrary to the occasional news article that reports an assault or something stolen on a cruise ship, cruises are very safe. They are safe because the people who get on the ship are screened by required positive ID well in advance of the boarding time/date and at ports of call access to the ship is strictly controlled. No unauthorized people are allowed on ships.

As far as assaults and other things on ships, there is virtually no place on ship where a person can be or go where there are no other people. So the opportunity for an assault is extremely rare. All cabins are sold double occupancy and very rarely does a person (female) have a cabin alone that a crew member could enter unnoticed. The cruise ship lines are also concerned about missing people but in most cases they find that a missing passenger is someone who commit suicide by jumping over board. or drunk passengers to do something stupid like siting on a balcony or deck railing and falling over.

One cruise that I went on I saw a guy sitting on a deck railing with his back to the ocean and his feet on a chair, obviously drinking, and that's why people fall over.  I even took a picture of it to send to the cruise line.

I think that it is sad that a travel agent does not know about what they are selling. Wouldn't it be best if you could look the person in the eye and tell them from personnal experience how safe cruises are ?

I have been on 22 cruises with 4 already paid for next year and it is the only I want to travel.

The joke used to be that you were safer on an airline flight than you were in your car getting to the airport.  Most people have a hard time calculating risks, however.

You are literally safer on a cruise ship than you are in your bed at home.  If you eliminate the "overboards," who are usually drunks or suicides, it is almost impossible to get killed on a cruise ship that visits an American port.  In fact, exactly one passenger has died as a result of anything else in the last 20 years, and that was a guy who died of a heart attack when the Princess ship had a fire a couple of years ago.  

In other words, cruise ships are VERY safe.  Safer than staying at home.  And cheaper than staying at a Holiday Inn and eating at Luby's.

I, too, am surprised that as a travel agent, you need to ask questions like that in a forum like this.  [And that your grammar and punctuation are this bad!]

There are websites and books where this information can be found, with much more reliability and specificity.  And common sense would seem to dictate that a cruise is no more prone to criminal activity than any other vacation or than everyday life.

I have never had a problem on a cruise.  The security is very visible, and watchful.

I'm a travel agent also and I can tell you from experience that yes, cruises are very safe compared to any other vacation or life in any major US city.
