racial preferences, more out of wedlock births than ever, more violence glorified in some music.

Is this the fulfillment of Dr. King's dream?

  1. Dr. King would say;  "Keep on going, don't look back, If you want freedom; KEEP ON GOING!  The fulfillment of Dr. King's dream and every true American is; That all people of all races come together in unity and harmony.  So, NO, the dream is not completed. So don't stop and "keep on going", till the dream is fulfilled."

    GOD BLESS!     AMEN!      SHALOM!

  2. He would be disappointed in the way his people have failed to take advantage of the headway he made for them. He would also be ashamed of those that have abused his name for personal profit like Sharpton and Jackson.

  3. No, he would not have approved of affirmative action.

  4. Yes. He would be amazed how fast we have moved forward. And he would tell Sharpton and Jackson to get a life.

  5. Dr. King was a Republican, but nobody seems to care about King's values anymore. It's sad.

Black people need to Honor MLK JR!

King said, "A right delayed is a right denied!"

Obama said, "Just because you have a right does not mean that the state or local government cannot constrain that right."

    BIG DIFFERENCE!!

  6. I think he would be mortified about the way his kids turned him into a souvenir concession.

  7. I think Dr. King would be appalled at the reverse racism that is going on in this country.,  And the discrimination against people of faith.  He would probably lead a march and fight for the rights of Christians.  He would probably rip Jackson, Sharpton and Obama in shreds and shake Bill Cosby's hand for telling it like it is.

  8. I doubt it.  Listen to the black leaders of today....Sharpton, Jackson.  Their message doesn't at all coincide wtih Kings.  King was a good man with morals and good ideas and solutions.  Sharpton and Jackson have to keep racism alive in order to preach their racist messages.

  9. I don't see that there is connection   between the  changes in society, which is happening  in the whole industrial world, and the  civil rights movement or the increase in equality in the US.  Surely you do not believe the  increase in the out of wedlock birth rate for both both black and white American women as well as women in Europe happened because  we ended segregation in the south and increased  equality between the races.

I think Dr King would be please  with the progress that has been made and  endorse limited  racial preference as a short term policy as a means of reaching his goal of a truly color blind society.

  10. He would probably be happy about Obama's candidacy, he would probably be happy about a Black Supreme Court Justice, Clarence Thomas, though disagree with him greatly, I think he would be happy there are a lot of African American politicians in many parts of the country including, and especially the deep South. He would be happy that many African Americans are going to college, both 4 year and Community Colleges.

He would not be happy with the increasing amounts of drugs used in all of society, not just the African American community. Like the Asker says, the out-of-wedlock births, child abuse (again, across the board, not just among Blacks), probably the violence and racial slurs in some of the music.

But take a look around. I am white and was in my teens when he died. If I spoke to an African American in my school, I was looked at funny. There were no African Americans in any offices where my Mom worked, or the offices where other kids' parents worked until the mid 1970's for the most part (I remember you would hear if "one of them" was hired by a company in the early 1970's) I remember when the first Black TV reporters were on local stations.  It was like "Did you see him?"

There is still a lot of predjudice and that is on all sides, racial things are no longer just Black and White. Hispanics and Asians and others play a big role today. There are problems among various groups and there is progress. I think he would be encouraged but not really happy.

I do not think he would be happy his birthday is used to sell furniture, or just a day off for people. But he would be happy with the way kids of all races learn about his struggles and learn his "I Have A Dream" speech in school today.

  11. Key question

Unwed births going past 80% 1 in 3  in trouble with the law,

    1/2 of murders ,

  12. I am so sick of hearing about this guy . I don't CARE, move on world

  13. Nope, he'd be condemning everyone.

  14. No he wouldn't be. There is still obvious racism, and many of the poverty stricken blacks aren't doing much to improve their life.

  15. Yes and No, the points you mentioned are serious issues. But also we have a legitimate African American Presidential Candidate. Every race is afforded the same opportunity as the other and significant progress has been made as far as equalities.

  16. Not if he went to Obama's "former" church and listened to Rev Wright.

  17. I think he would cry about some things and celebrate others.
