Michael Vaughan has warned Australia that England now have the strength in depth to win back the Ashes next year.

Vaughan's side are about to embark on a three-Test series against New Zealand but the England captain is already looking ahead towards the 2009 visit of Australia.

  1. NO england wont win one match against nz nor will they win the ashes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JUST KIDDING.........this is cricket u cant predict anything.......but i say england have a great chance of winning the ashes....if australia can regroup and sac ponting as captain then aussie will have a slight advantage.....but lyk i said its cricket anything can happen........if ausstralia lose against the west indies BLAME IT ON PONTING!!!!!!

  2. too early to say.

  3. its to early

  4. Of course England can win back the Ashes. If they go into the series only thinking that they just want to compete, then they might as well not bother turning up. And here are a few reasons to strengthen Vaughan's claim:

    - Australia are currently a side in transition. Warne, McGrath, Langer, Martyn, and Gilchrist have all retired. Hayden, Ponting, Symonds, Hussey, Clark

and Lee are all past the age of 30, and nearing the end of their shelf lives. New players are coming in, but it takes a while to settle in the international arena. So expect Australia to become more inconsistent as a result.

    - Australia can find no adequate replacement for Warne

    - England's batsmen will be sufficiently experienced in international cricket, and battle hardened to provide more consistency than of late.

    - Ditto England's bowlers.

    - Steve Harmison is currently chained like a dog in his back garden, and is being fed on slices of raw meat thrown to him by Michael Vaughan. By the time the Ashes come around, he will be raring to go!

  5. Any test series played by England is in preperation with The Ashes, that is England's premier goal in cricket. England will always look ahead to The Ashes even if they are 1 year away from it because that's what they are building upto from now til June 2009.

It's not said too early, there are only 4 series away from the Ashes, that is about 12 matches!!. I agree with Vaughan England are capable of winning The Ashes.

Australia are not the same team without Warne and McGrath!, England will not FEAR Australia going into the series. England have the talent and confidence to beat Australia. It is just a question of whether England bottle it or not

  6. Yes i think england may have a chance for these reasons:

    1. They back themselves. Vaughan obviously believes that his team can win and this will go along way to the team also believing they can win. You can't beat australia if you don't believe you can

    2. Some of australia's players have retired and thus although they are still a great team they will have to adjust there playing stragegies (ie. they don't have warne to take 40 wickets this time)

    3. England won the ashes back in 05 in england. Thus they will believe they can do it again and trust the extra support that they will get over in england will go along way to helping them win

So yes england can win and india has shown that australia is no longer undefeatable. However in order to win Vaughans team will have to play some very good cricket, cricket i believe they are capable of playing

    Hope this answers your question

    Edit:

Yes i think they can win agaisnt NZ and they are going to have to win if they are to establish some confidence in themselves as a strong cricket team

  7. Yes love too early to call this one.Even though i know Kookee will say Yes(lol)....

There are so many matches for both teams in between 2009 Ashes and now,so many things to concider like injuries, missing players,I cant wait though i have always loved the Ashes matches-Yes even when Australia has lost...

  8. We can win and it should be slightly easier this time but we'll still have to play out of our skins.  Getting rid of strauss would also be a good move.

  9. Yes, as Scarlett O'Hara said to Rhett Butler, 'after all, tomorrow is another day'!

  10. Australia are too strong

  11. Anything is possible. Who knows what will transpire in the  meantime? There are a few Aussies who may well retire & England may find some new fresh players who will shine.

  12. yes very early
