Do you think English is an excuse?

So this my dilemma. My little sister goes to a really good school in a really good neighborhood with really good teachers. Last year when she was in Kinder she had a spanish speaker teacher so mom was cool with that but now her 1st grade teacher doesn't speak spanish and my mom doesn't speak English. So my mom decided to move my sister to another school. The new school is new it just opened this year but is not in the safest community and it doesn't have the greatest teachers, but most of the teachers do speak spanish. But I don't think is fair for my mom to change my sister because my mom doesn't know English. She said that is really important for her to have communication with the teacher and she said she's not going to be able to have it if my sister stays in that school because she doesn't know English but she has my sister and I to translate and they are 2 secretaries in my sisters current school that can translate but she still wants to move her to the new school.

What would you do if you were in that situation?

Do you think English is an excuse to change her from a great school to a not so great school?

  1. sounds like mom needs to take an english class

  2. I don't think English is a reasonable excuse to change her form a great school to a not so great school. All schools are supposed to have translators, no matter what - it's a law.

  3. Your mom needs to put your sister's interests ahead of hers. It would put your sister at a big disadvantage to go to a substandard school.

Tell your mom it's not safe in the other school and your sister doesn't feel safe there.
