  1. If you are talking about U.S.A. YES!!!!, of AMERICA NO!!!!

America is the whole continent, and by the way, the most spoken lang in the continent is spanish.

United States OF AMERICA, no "America the United States".

  2. Yes.  An official language would certainly simplify things for the government, resulting in $aving$.

  3. it seems pretty self explanatory that english should be the official language. People can speak their own language at home or with their own people but for government purposes then i don't think it shuold be anything but english

  4. No question about it. I want my government to stop catering to one group of minorities that refuses to learn the language of America.

  5. ISN'T IT?

  6. Yes - and having to press '1' for English annoys me no end!

  7. Yes - the official language should be and is English in the US with regard to assimilation.

But at the same time, it is ALWAYS great for US folks to learn other languages too --  be they, Italian, Russian, German, French, Spanish, Portugese,  Dutch,  Nordic - whatever....

The knowledge of English is a compulsory education in other countries. I am Nordic.  I speak fluent English, right?

As it is,  to pass the US citizenship requirement, one MUST be proficient in English.

(Hmmmm.....la gente española juzga las respuestas? Cuántas lenguas son enseñadas en México? LOL!)

  8. It is though, right?

  9. in my opinion it should, considering marjority of americans speak english.  BUT we shouldn't have to learn spanish as a second language either, that would just be benefiting the illegal aliens that come here.

  10. Yes, my ancestors had to learn English and so should all new immigrants.

  11. Yes, it's part of what makes us American.

Good point, by the way, Zinco!

  12. No. Not everyone is decended from the English. To be completely politically correct, everyone should learn Latin.

Edit: I think it is AMAZING how a person can be asked their OPINION and be given a thumbs down for it, by the way.

Grow up, people, and get your heads out of your rear end. English was NOT the original language of this country! I stated Latin b/c it is found in ALL romance languages - including ENGLISH.

    Good grief.

  13. ill say back to the Nahuatl tongue, hehe

  14. No it shouldn't anyone can speak whatever they want and read in whatever language they want.......

Why do they have to whatever the government tells them or ignorant people with no compassion.... what them to do...

If that law passes they should also pass one for people who want them to learn and see how well they write not all use proper grammar....

I'm also sick and tired of close minded so called "people"

not being well educated ..... and want to change what doesn't need change.....they should focus on our troops that are suffering

  15. Yes.  Everything in this country is predicated on English.  When you look, you discover a majority of the countries of the world use English to communicate, and do business.  It is as close to a Universal Language as you can get in reality.

Our laws, and our cultural concepts, are tied up in English.  If we do legalize another language, it should be German or Modern Chinese.

Too the point however: English is a working language for most of the world, and our national language in reality.  Learn it or leave.

  16. I believe that the Official language of the United States should be English. It should appear on all documents including licenses and testing. No English, no license Iterpretors should not be provided by the government, i.e. taxpayers.

If translation is necessary it should be up to the non English speaking person to provide and English speaking partner.

Government printing offices, hospitals, Department of Motor Vehicles spend money on translation that could be better used on bridges, highways(preventing them from being PRIVATIZED TOLL ROADS) serving the needs of citizens.

For example, the mentioned road systems. If our roads are turned over to private companies, because we are spending money on items we never approved or ever would, we will have to pay tolls to drive on roads we built with our tax money.

This is one way we can as citizens draw the line. We must stop the use of our tax money in ways that will hurt us.

English as the only language is a huge savings for taxpayers. Using another language at home or schooling children in multiple languages is a wonderful cultural advantage.

  17. yes, of course it should

  18. well actually tongva was the language of the USA before white people came and brought english with them

yeah put me a thump down you ignorant people

  19. I would say that YES, English should be America's official language.  It was the language used by the Founding Fathers.  The Supreme Laws of our land, as well as our independence were documents drafted in English as well.

Sure, we have people from all over the world living here and all sorts of different languages are spoken, but when the world thinks of the language of the United States, Spanish doesn't usually come to mind.

    English does.

  20. Yes, it should.

  21. Yes, and I would like no other language on my signs, Menus, and instrutions, etc. If you want to live here you much pass a language test.

  22. Absolutely! This country was founded on English and it should be the official language. Speak it or get out!

  23. Yes it should, everything is written in English, its part of the Constitution, etc etc. If you want United States citizenship, you should be required to learn to speak and read basic English. The same should be applied to other countries of the world as well. If you don't speak the native language, you shouldn't be given citizenship.
