I've noticed that especially on his back hand, he misfires because of his fast racquet head speed. For example on Nadal's second serves on his back hand if he slows down just a bit, do you think he can make that first strike a lot better? I love his backhand it's so beautiful and when it's on fire it's deadly. I think he's talented enough to do whatever he wants with that racquet. I don't mean all the time but incorporate it.

  1. Gerard S I can’t agree more with you. It was the worst decision the second worst was hiring Jose. He is so bad that I don’t know what the h**l he is still doing with Roger until now.

It is not the speed of his racquet,  it is the size of his racquet. RN can control his shots more because he uses one of the biggest racquets in the tour 100 inch and guess what Federer is using 90-inch k-factor which is the smallest in tour he is the only one who plays with 90inch. Which is very hard to control and if you not a magician (all the time) you can’t control the top spin shots, because there is no margin for errors in this racquet.

He has to dump Jose enlarge his racquet and a sport psychologist would not hurt any one.

  2. Yes, this sounds like a good idea!

But racket speed is not really the specific problem for Roger Federer. I should think that the biggest mistake he made in his career, was to part ways with his coach Tony Roach. Under the guidance of Roach Federer was in a class of his own.

I admit that many of the younger players have improved, and have improved greatly, but Roger plays well below his capability at the moment. If Tony Roach stepped in right now, it would not take a long time for Federer to get his confidence and his skill level back to the standard he has been able to play at.

  3. he doesnt miss because of fast racquet head speed, he misses because of bad timing, not in position etc. however he may be missing because he snatches at he ball rather than having at nicely timed rthym on the shot. as a player you are always told that you should swing freely and slowing down your r.h.s. will only increase your unforced errors
