Do you think Garnet deserved defensive player of the year ?

I personally don't think he should have won this award. Ya he is a good defender but he is not defensive player of the year caliber. The NBA gave it to him because it was such a big deal about the Boston Celtics this year that they had to give somebody an award on that team and that was the closest thing that wouldnt be as argumentative as say if Garnet won the MVP award. I know Celtics were the best defensive team last year statistics wise, but that has to do with the team defense, not a specific player. I know stats aren't everything, but they play a big part in winning awards and Garnet's stats were not Defensive player of the year material. Garnet didnt even average 10 rebounds or 1.5 blocks or 1.5 steals. Ronny Turiaf averaged more blocks than he did. And he is not even a lock down defensive player. Kenyon Martin is better at Man defense than Garnet. Marcus Camby or Dwight Howard should have won the award. IT pisses me off how the NBA determined this award and it a bunch of c**p. what u guys think?

Dwight Howard cant really play defense. People just feel his presence because of his size.

Yo defense is not about stats thats y josh smith never gets to be on the all defensive team.... and marcus camby didnt win 2 years in a row.... its about how smart u play defense and how well you stop your man from scoring and help defense.... i personally wanted kobe to win but he probably didnt deserve it... well garnett mainly won cuz he led his team to the best record and had like  the best opponets ppg.... and garnett was a big reason for his teams defense so yea i guess he deserved it more than anyone else...

He did had some good important blocks this season and he is a solid defender, i think he has the edge

u can tell who don't understand bball from questions like these

some of the great defenders of all time like rodman and duncan dont pile up the stats but are great defenders

camby is overrated on d, weak man defender

and dwight needs to improve man defense as well

garnett is one of the best in league at moving to help a teammate and at man defense

who cares if camby or dwight get more blocks thats like 2 more possessions per game that they do better

the other 50 or so possessions players like kg and duncan r better on defense b.c they are smarter, better at helping teammates, and better at guarding some1- thats y iverson aint no defensive player of the year

and he is a lockdown defensive player, and his teams r good defensively b/c of him mainly

im a fan of KG and his team, but to me awards should be handed out by stats because that what these players work for is stats,awards, championships, etc. and KG did not deserve that reward at all for some one not to even be in the top ten for rebounds or blocks got the defensive player of the year award, that sucks, he got it because his team had a good season, marcus camby, d howard were well more deserving of the award, and they did get robbed on that one, so if the celtics do bad next season which i hope they dont but if they do, and KG plays the same way has the same stats i bet he will not win that award!!!!!!! so i totally agree wit you i thought i was the only one who thought he did not deserve that award!!!!!!

It is not all about stats... Camby leads the league in block(i think) but his team is stil the worst defensive team.  All Camby does is camp the paint.  KG brings pure Defense. KG lead his team to  be the best defensive team.I rather take KG defense rather then camby and Howard.  Beleive me, Dwight and Camby defense is so overrated.
