Is Russia within their rights to stop Georgia from trying to take over territory that seceded from them?

no just an easy way for russia to flex its muscle spread fear and raise gas prices because high gas prices are all that is keeping their pathetic economy from going bankrupt.

Well, let's see.  Russia shot down a Georgian plane a few months ago,  Russia provided support and supplies used in attacks on Georgia, Russia launched a multi-pronged attack deep into Georgian territory, Russia occupies much of Georgia at this very moment.  Georgian attacks into Russia?  Grand total of zero.  Pretty obvious it was Russia.

Despite the bias of the news, I don't think Georgia started this, I KNOW they did.

It is not a matter for debate, it's all very straightforwrd, and a matter of record.
