I believe that if we don't do something soon, we will be trapped with all the fish in the sea. We need a solution and soon. That's not to say we shouldn't start doing things to help the situation now, such as turning off all the lights when you leave a room, line drying clothes, etc.

If it's a myth, why are glaciers to the north and parts of Antarctica breaking off and melting faster than predicted? Why is it above 70-degrees in April in Michigan when it should be in the low 50s?

And if you were colder than normal this winter, that could also be an indicator of global warming.

And if you're a christian and don't believe in global warming because the organized religions have somehow made you believe it doesn't exist, what type of tool will Mr. God use to cause extreme weather? Your Bible predicts it will happen in the end times, right?

Heat from the sun causes winds and severe weather. The sun is more powerful and has more adverse effects on our environment when the atmosphere is thinner. So when the ozone layer is reduced even a little, the increase in heat from the sun on earth forces the winds to blow faster and water to evaporate more quickly. When water evaporates at a faster rate, combined with increased energy in the air, storm become more powerful and frequent.

It's definately not a myth, but as for whether it can be reversed naturally or by our actions is yet to be seen.

its not a myth its happening right now, every year its getting hotter look up pictures of  ice glaciers in the 70's and look for the same picture of them in 2008 their practically melted. The north pole has been melting very quickly who knows if by 2050 we would drown but at this rate its looking pretty factual.

As a Scientist & Engineer who was busy developing the technologies and procedures for bioremediation of polluted lakes and the mass production of algae, many years before "green", became "cool", I can tell you without a shred of apprehension, that Global Warming is definitely NOT A MYTH! Anyone who tells you different is either lying, in denial or simply listening to the wrong people. I feel justified in saying this because the levels of Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere are currently at 380 parts per million (ppm) and the highest concentrations of CO2 found in ice cores from both poles have been in the 285-305ppm range. These concentrations have dates that directly correlate with previously known climatic shift events.

The facts are that our Earthly environment is a self-correcting, solar powered, chemical & biochemical engine. We have through many means, mostly burning fossil fuels and overpopulation, destabilized the system. If you have ever heard the word "terra-forming" before, that's what will be necessary on a global scale if the human race is to detectibly reduce the severity of the effects of Global Warming. This problem wasn't created in a day, and certainly can't be fixed in a similar amount of time.

For the past 100+ years we have been ignorantly changing the proportions of the primary constituants of our atmosphere and the Earth's chemical engine to ratios that even including supervolcano eruption events, has NEVER in the history of the Earth been this lop-sided. The "optimal" atmospheric Carbon Dioxide contentration according to NOAA is aprox. 250ppm. This number (250ppm of CO2) is given as a "safe" target concentration for end point of remediation the planet Earth. It's also the average amount of CO2 in ice core bubbles that are hundreds of thousands of years old. The need of quantification (the 250ppm number) is just so everyone can comprehend the basics of the issue, assuming of course that maintaining our current relatively mild and stable climates for the future is important to us.

The really dangerous  problem (due to its rapidity of onset)hasn't gotten the amount of press or attention from the scientific community its severity deserves. The problem is another naturally occurring greenhouse gas, Methane.

Methane in the atmosphere is 26 times more destructive to the environment than is Carbon Dioxide. Methane is held sequestered in enormous quantities deep in the oceans in an icy solid called Methane Hydrate. The quantity of sequestered Methane gas is estimated (by NOAA) to be between 3 and 6 times the amount of free Methane currently in the atmosphere (including all of the cow farts, landfills and pig farms etc.).

The mechanisms that eventually inhibit the mass-release of the Methane gas from the enormous deposits of the ice-like solid, Methane Hydrate is in a couple of words, pressure and heat.

The warmer the ocean is, the more pressure (deeper water) is required to keep the Methane Hydrate from changing state and converting directly from a solid (Methane Hydrate) to Methane gas. Whenever released (because it is lighter than air) Methane gas will rise to the altitude in the atmosphere where it will do the most damage and temporarily wipe out the vast majority of the ozone layer, thus promoting the use of sunblock with a SPF of 5,000+. None of these issues are permenant. After anywhere from 2 to 200 years post-Methane release, the environment will probably be cleaner than it is today.

The story only gets uglier for us humans as the processes continue. We specific, individual human beings will probably not live long enough to see for ourselves whether or not our efforts to go "green" will have saved humanity. We (humans as a species) may simply not be here at all to see if we helped the planet. Or learned from our communal mistakes.

Life as a concept, will continue on Earth just as it has. This includes everything from viruses on up to microbes and even a few of the higher organisms, (maybe some humans too) will find a way to survive the climatic violence as the Earth's processes work to shake us humans off this rock like a dog shakes off fleas.

When I hear of governments prattling on about "carbon credits" and the like, all I can see being created is a system where something as unrelated and ethereal as "economics" are still a higher priority than the indisputable fact that we as humans, environmentally speaking, can't **** where we eat and expect to survive.

There is no quick fix. We all need to change how we live. Without that fundamental global cultural shift, how many of us there are will be greatly diminished either by our inability to live together, or by Mother Earth when she can no longer tolerate mankind's bullshit.

My studies have shown that the oil community is the only one sponsoring the counter spin on global warming. Remind you of the cigarette industry? It reminded Al Gore of it.

I think global warming is true... to a point! Big business is totally cashing in on dumb Americans "going green" honestly businesses don't do anything they can't cash in on so that flexfuel (corn sux as fuel anyway) truck & that green shoping tote they are tryng to sell you are just fronts & all this c**p about green clorox now OMGOSH get the f*** over yourselves (not saying you Aimee, just saying this in general) all you guys who really are buying up all this fake marketing c**p.  So global warming is happening but are we really gonna change it? Only in your stupid mind global warming is a myth. Just use your limited intelligence to draw a few conclusions. For instance animal species are disappearing why? because man population is growing and taking up space to build, or because some idiots like to kill animals for fun, that's call hunting. The fact is, science doesn't understand why these natural climate variations occur, and can not reliably distinguish between natural and possible human influences on global temperatures. So, if scientists have no other natural explanation for a warming trend, they tend to assume that it is manmade.

Shoot, that's a relief because I heard it would happen before 2040 on the show 60 minutes if we didn't start taking action now. No, it is not a myth. who started that rumor? guess? the oil companies, ofcourse. And according to 60 minutes; Al Gore is saying it will happen in 2060 if we start to take action now. Since nobody is taking any drastic actions; prior to 2040 could be inevitable. Look at the evidence. Where are all the hurricanes coming from? Now, I don't believe that the world is going to end in 2012 like some religious fanatics do; but I do believe shows like 20/20 or 60 minutes even though it might just be an inconvenient truth to you.

Yeah, I think it’s a myth. But I think we still need to look after our environment and treat it with care. The theory of Global Warming is accurate in some ways but not in others. I suggest you watch The Great Global Warming Swindle...

If you look back in history when they didn't use as much carbon they still had droughts and ice ages. Its just a climate cycle that has happened for ages, centurys...

The ice glacier melting is a normal cycle and has happened for 100s of years. Another thing is that the cycle of Co2 and time has a 100 year time difference, I don't know how to explain it. Also during the post war economic boom the co2 went up but the temperature went up....See what I mean? It was in the Great Global Warming Swindle...I think...It was a while ago... But then there is good evidence to support that it does exist.

Im still not sure what to say on this one but BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY should be the attitude cos 30 years ago when all this came out people were saying its nonsense. Today water levels have risen to the point where were seeing extreme rain in traditinaly drought laden areas and extreme heat in traditionaly cold places. The seasons are out of place and HUMAN POPULATIONS ARE RISING.

Global warming and cooling are syclical. The ice age was hear at least 6 times before. It has to warm before it cools or it's not an Ice age. Science is fueled by money and the money says what is science.

Global warming is totally a hoax. The global warming effect was measured on Mars as well. I guess all the people on Mars are irresponsible polluters too. Get a life greenies. Edit: Why don't you icecap conspiracy theorists look at the growth of the southern icecaps. They are growing at an exponential rate.
