Do you think Humans are monkey's? Why do we destroy our young just like them, if we're not?

These monkey's do it ordinarily, and so does mankind. Why do Humans do it, take the life of their children, but so many, who do, seem to think these monkey's are bad monkey's for doing it?

If Humans are "higher" than monkey's, do you think we should act like it, or are we just baby-killing monkey's?

  1. monkeys are cute shut up.

  2. We are nothing like monkeys.  We have morals while monkeys have instincts.  We are worse than monkeys.

  3. Humans are not "higher" than monkeys.  The idea that humans are greater than monkeys is a Christian idea that is now part of western culture.  God created man in his image, therefore man is greater than ape.  Of course, God didn't create man; man was created as part of a mindless mechanism known as evolution. From a biological perspective, a man is not better than an ape.  Nor is an ape any better than a fern--or a man better than a tree!  Men are good at some things, grass is good at others.  Cheetahs are pretty amazing at quite a few things (just get into a fight with one and see).

Of course, killing members of your own species occurs regularly when doing so will ensure that your genes have a better chance of getting passed on.  All sorts of animals do this.  In other words, doing so does not make you a monkey.  Rather, it makes you a part of a whole class of animals who do so.

For example, if a male animal comes across a female that he wants to mate with, she may already have kids.  If he wants to mate with the female, his children will have a better chance to survive if he kills off the offspring she already had with another man.  That way there is more time for her to care for his babies, and so his genes have a better chance to be passed on.  Thus animals kill the babies of other males in this situation.

This phenomena occurs with humans, but pretty infrequently.  We can still see that it occurs statistically.  Of course, there are laws, our thoughts, and our culture--all of these help to inspire us not to kill babies in the name of our own genes.  In the end, we are just another species, and we act like one could expect a species to act.  At the same time, sometimes we are a species that does amazing interesting things too!
