  1. I really hope not. Even though I live in N.Y.C  my dad experienced a lot of hurricanes as a child and a good friend of mine is from Louisiana and she has told me a lot of stories.

Well when I last saw a report about Ike I didn't like it at all. If that storm goes south of Florida or goes through Florida, and then heads into the gulf, it can hit Louisiana =(. But I hope and I pray it doesn't do so. I really want Ike just to veer out into sea.

  2. take a look; http://hurricane.accuweather.com/hurrica...

      What do you think?

  3. I hate to have to say this, but right now the projected path has it headed dead center at New Orleans.  My heart really goes out to the people there.  It's still very early and things could change though--let's hope they do.  New Orleans has been through enough already.

An easy way to track Ike is with http://www.USAMediaGuide.com. It has a special section of links to Ike's projected path, National Hurricane Center and local news coverage, hurricane preparation tips, live streaming webcams, and other Ike-related stuff.

  4. "someone said its gonna hit Florda, lol well so did just about all of the that have hit Louisiana. So did Katrina, and this one (so far is taking the same path as Katrina. No one knopws what its gonna do until right before it happens, even with all this useless tech. no one knows. The only thing to do is, leave early to be safe or wait untill the last minute lke most people do..."

  5. It seems that if Ike swings a little further South it could swing back North West and hit LA. Even if it hits Florida, it could still get into the Gulf Of Mexico, it could still continue on a North West path and hit LA.  Honestly, Hurricane Gustav was way worst than Katrina for the Baton Rouge, Louisiana Metropolitan Area. It is now said that Gustav was worst than Hurricane Betsy, as the first hurricane to cause over a billion dollars in damage (1965 dollars), earned the nickname "Billion-Dollar Betsy". What really hurt New Orleans from Katrina was the water surge. When it struck New Orleans, it was a Category 4 storm lumbering northward across nearby Lake Pontchartrain. Though it didn't strike the city dead-on, Katrina's winds piled Pontchartrain water along the hurricane's margins in a destructive surge. Though most of the Pontchartrain levees survived, the weak links were two of the canals that drain the city (the 17th Street and London Avenue canals) and the Industrial Canal that links the Mississippi with the lake and the Intracoastal Waterway. Pumps constantly pull water from city areas below sea level and dump it into the canals, which drain into the lake. The Katrina surges funneled water up these canals and pushed the flood walls aside in three areas. Once they were breached, the water poured in to submerge nearly the entire city. Hurricane Gustav swept through Baton Rouge on Monday, killing at least two people, blowing down trees and power lines and carving a path of destruction some officials say is worse than the devastation Hurricane Betsy left in 1965."This is the most destruction in East Baton Rouge Parish in anyone’s memory,” said Walter Monsour, Mayor-President Kip Holden’s chief administrative officer. Sustained winds of up to 61 mph and gusts up to 91 mph ripped through the Capital City, almost surpassing what residents saw during Betsy when gusts reached 92 mph, Monsour said. Gustav tore down trees, power lines and traffic signals throughout the parish, leaving 300,000 residents without power and causing enough damage to initiate a 10-hour curfew and the Red Cross to open at least two shelters.

  6. We live about 4 miles from the Metro Baton Rouge Airport and we took a huge hit from Gustav.  We lost the majority of the shingles on our roof and it started to leak into our attic, hallway, office and my youngest son's room.  So I pray that this storm takes another path or just fizzles out.  I would hate to see it hit anywheres, but Louisiana cannot afford to take another hit after the devastation of Gustav.  The majority of my family is still without power!  However, the current models show it as a probability.  All the residents of Louisiana need to truly be praying for it to fizzle out!!!

  7. I live in Baton Rouge and Gustav knocked my power out. i am using a generator to power my computer. I am already praying that the storm will just fizzle out. But in truth. i thing it will hit Louisiana. my best advice it to buy a generator then drive to Slidel Louisiana (they have gas with no lines and lots of gas cans at the Homedepot) and get your gas and all of your groceries. also buy a window unit and hook it up in your bedroom. If it does hit your area make sure you are ready. it could be a week ot two before the power comes back on because they are predicting cat 4 when it enters the gulf. it could be cat 5 when it hits us. REMEMBER BE READY!!!!!!!!

  8. I hope not. You guys have been through a lot in the past couple years.

  9. NO! It will hit Florida

  10. I understand what you are going through, my house was just damaged by gustav.  I have no roof!!  I just checked and it did say it will hit Flordia but then I think it will head this way. This hurricane season is a bad one!!!!  Ike seems to be a bad boy.  I guess they named it well becaues he will do us just like he did Tina!  Good luck to all my fellow Louisiana residents may the Lord be with us.

  11. I have the opposite mentality of most Louisiana residents.  When we are evacuating, I always go on a vacation.  It really takes the stress off, and lets what will happen happen.  I do think Ike might hit, and I just got back from Chicago, I think now its time to go to San Antonio.  During Katrina my parents house got destroyed, it was a miserable 9 months in a crappy apartment complex.  Now after Gustav, my home in Baton Rouge has power, but no cable (tv or internet).  No reason to sit around in miserable conditions if you can afford not to be there.  Just take off after securing your possesions and let nature takes its course.

P.S. Jindal is all ******* talk, even after Katrina hit, and he blamed Blanco into the political grave, Jindal hasn't even been able to get the measures passed to help more residents and to get a sufficient number of sub-contracters in the area to help the major energy companies, another joke from the Republican party.  1/3 of the state is without energy still after a category 1 storm....wonder if we will be back in the middle ages after Ike.

  12. I don't know if it will, but I am tired of people just covering news from New Orleans because there are other cities that have been damaged greatly because of Gustav and no one knows when electricity is going be on. My city is looking at 3-4 weeks before we have power. For those of us who don't the internet, they don't when they can get home because of the debris left form Gustav.

  13. Unfortunately, it's looking like that now, but things can change.  Gustav weakened in the gulf. They just want everyone to be prepared for the worst.  I feel for Lousiana.  We understand, because Charley hit us in 2004, and we haven't finished rebuilding yet.  I grew up in SC with hurricanes, so I know how devastating it can be. I know how frustrating it is when people don't take it seriously, or care about those affected. I have a Red Cross banner on my blog for donations to Hurricane Victims.
