Question:

Do you think I'm making the wrong choice for not taking drivers' ed?

I live in NY state, I'm 16, and I was going to take drivers ed this summer, when I realized it would be everyday, varied from about 8am-2pm. This would take up my ENTIRE summer. This is my last worry free summer before I need to get ready for college and I want to make the most of it. I'm not thinking about getting a car anytime soon because not only are my parents old fashioned (making me buy my own vehicle) but also it is way too expensive for me (GAS at $4 NOW!) and I'd rather get rides from my friends and parents. It will only reduce my insurance by a little and I really don't have the need to drive at this point in my life; I can wait until I'm 18 for a license, no problem. What do you guys think?

  1. well given your situation i would most definatly look into taking drivers ed i mean your entering college your gonna need to get use to driving a car... you cant rely on others to do things for you... i guess you going to college will open your eyes to see that... i mean wouldnt you rather get your drivers license earlier then 18? i wish i went to take my written test at age 15 and then went at age 16... i took my written test at 17 and im still 17... and i will be able to take my test on my 18th birthday.... if i didnt take the drivers ed class i would have to wait till im 19!... it really does make a difference... when you think about it, if i were you i would just take the drivers ed... since when does drivers ed take the whole summer? look into some other schools... my drivers ed classes are only for 3 days 8am-3pm... and after that i get my certificate and can go and write my test in nov.. instead of next year in may... as for the car situation try finding out if anyone you know is selling a car... or buying a new one... my parents are buying a new car and im getting there old car.. which is in really good condition...

    good luck!

  2. Yeah, I agree with you.  If you don't need to drive, don't bother.  As long as you have a way of getting to school and stuff, you're fine.
