Here are some pictures of mine:

[These are using my Sony A300, from a schooling show today]

What should I work on? How can I make sure my pictures are as clear as possible? How much should I charge?

Thanks for all your help! Please be harsh and honest when critiquing the photos.

  1. ah they look good (: theyre nice and clear. i know when i compete i buy so many pictures of myself xD

im sure youll make money with that!

  2. I totally agree with Flutterfly.  I don't know much a equine pictures, but they seem really good.  But yeah, keep in mind what the background is.  Good pics though

  3. they are good quality and color

    you've done well with that

now what you need to do is find artistic angles, shots, subjects. The pictures are just average riders. Try something that when a person glances at it, they go BAM and look at the picture. It should atract attention to it by being interesting.

  4. I think they are excellent I don't' know to much about photography, but pay attention to the background. the last one with the big red booth in the back ground takes the focus of the horse and rider.

  5. The first two are very good - the focus is in the right place, you have good depth of field, and the central object is centered very well. The third one doesn't do as much for me, it seems a little too dark and there is too much extra space around the horse and rider. Since these are portrait-ish photos of the eventers, you want to keep distractions to a minimum. You've got a good sense of motion in the first one, I like how the horse's tail is flowing, but is still in focus. All around, very good! Do you have any action/jumping shots? I'd love to see them if you want to email them to me! There's a wonderful site called www.photographica.org that you can post photos on, and the community there are amazing photogs and are more than happy to critique! I posted there for the longest time, right now my browser won't support the site. I'd check it out if I were you!

  6. make sure the backgrounds aren't distracing like the last picture..

and i love the 2nd picture because i'ts focused in on the horse and rider only and the zoom is perfect the f1st pic is really good too but it would be better if you focused in more on the horse and rider and zoomed in a bit

also try to take a STRAIGHT picture!

these are very pretty! and look great! i'm really into photography myself and am looking to buy a new camera! your camera took great pics and the horses look great!

  7. Yeah I think you definitely could be!!

I wish I was as good as you!

Try to get lots of action shots like cross country! that would be cool.

    :) ***

  8. Yes I think you can be! I seen pro look worse then that! Your really good! For the first one start off with 10 on ebay for bid but give a buy now price to! The 2nd on start 5 and the 3rd 10 your good if you do go though with it I just might buy one of that paint wow beautiful! Good luck to you!

  9. In both photo's number one and two I found that the T-posts in the background bugged me.  Not sure if you had a way to get the pics without that in the background.

The first photo I found ok overall.  Centered pretty good but I would have given more head space in case this person wanted to frame the pic.  There isn't really enough room without her head touching the frame or getting cut off.

The second pic I wouldn't like if I were the rider.  It was very unflattering to the rider.  Taken more off the shoulder of the horse or from behind would have been better just so the tummy of the woman wouldn't be so pronounced.

I also didn't like the arena letter H on the left.  Distracts from the eye I think.

The last pic I didn't like at all.

The gazebo in the background messes up the pic completely.  Makes it feel like 'trash' in the background.  The the person's head popped up over the hind end of the horse.  The letter C underneath also distracts the eye.

Because of all that the horse actually has a blurred appearance.  Not sure if it is but all that clutter plays with the eye.  Maybe lack of sun?  I dunno.

The T-posts were pretty good..got them almost out of the pic.

That is what I see...a person just passing by and looking at the pics.  Not saying what I see is accurate but it's what I see if I were looking for a photographer.

  10. I'm NOT  photographer, so take this with a grain of salt...

But you your just slightly lagging on the pictures, you want the leading leg fully extended for the most beautiful positioning.  This is true for all saddle breeds, drafts you want the leading leg in action and on the up stroke of the trot.

I can show you some professional pics that I have purchased that were amazing of my son and I in competition if you like.  Just email me and I will forward them to you.  They might help give you more pointers too.

  11. these are very good photos but yes as everyone else has said the last one had the distraction in the background, but thats ok! you will only get better by learning from this mistake....i would suggest trying to take photographs in the English pleasure league instead of Dressage, English pleasure will give you a pefect opportunity to get a good shot of extented trot, making the photograph full of majestic looking movement., once you have mastered the art of English pleasure then move on to Dressage because by then you will know the exact time and movement to take the photo therefore the picture will turn out alot better...=D

      [[great job]]...hope i helped!

  12. Yea Your pics arent too bad. You just need to learn when is a good time to take the pic. in one of the there is a hut behind the horse.

Also trying to take it to make the horse look good also helps. but yea I think there good.

I'm trying to start up my own king of thing as well.
