Do you think I could get my job back?

So about a year ago I got a job at Borders(the bookstore) and I worked there for 3 days when I got an offer to work at place that I had been trying to get hired at for a long time. So obviously I took the job, and instead of doing the right thing and putting in a two week notice I just called in the day of my next scheduled shift and told them that it wasn't working out...so do you think that if I went in with my resume and apologized for my actions that I would be considered for a job when they have an opening?

  1. Your chances are slim to none, you have already left a bad taste in their mouths by working a couple of days and quitting with no notice. What says you will not do that again. Bridge is burned move on.

  2. A 2 week notice isn't necessarily the "right" thing.  The right thing is ALWAYS in the context of what's right for you.  Generally, if you're in a professional field you would offer a 2 week notice because you don't want to burn bridges.  You might need your past employers reference or you might want to come back to them some day.  But in your case your leaving did not hurt their business or hurt your reputation.

But I would have been more honest.  If you said things weren't working out they might be wondering what problem it is you have with your work experience there?  You should have just said I received an offer for a job that I am excited about and want to move on in the direction of my goals.  That would have made you an even more interesting person to consider for a job if you ever tried to go back there

  3. In this situation it doesn't hurt to try.

That position is high turnover anyway and alot of times it depends on if they like you

  4. Nope.  You showed them what you were made of.

  5. Not if I were the boss.  I would think that you would do it again if something else came up.  You could promise anything, but I would not believe you.

  6. I guess it would depend on how bad they need workers.

Personally, I would not hire someone back who had ditched their responsibility.
