Have been trying for 8 months now to get a job, but have had no success, could it be my age?

Depends what you can do and what you are good at. If you came to me for a job I wouldn't turn you down because of your age. Good luck

The over fifties are at a disadvantage in the workplace because many employers are too stupid to realise that older people tend to make better employees.

If you are clever and/or very good at your trade or profession then you are at another disadvantage because many employers are so insecure that they can not abide employees who are cleverer and more knowledgeable than they are.

I am 55 and was in the same boat as you so I successfully started my own business last year, perhaps that is the way to go.

If you are a UK resident the job centre will give you lots of practical help if you want to start your own business.

My friends dad (55) who lost his job (he's an engineer) found another job about 6 months later. Don't lose hope, just keep looking.

I'm almost 47 and I've been unemployed since May. I've applied every where I can. I've been in the restaurant business since I was fifteen, so that's all I know. Honestly I think it's my age. I'm not a bad looking woman, but if you had to pick between a perky 21 year old and a hard working 47 year old to tend bar, most pick the 21 year old. I'm losing faith in the in discrimination law, you know the one that says we will not discriminate against, race, religion, AGE!

Yes, but it really depends on what kind of job you're talking about. Also, don't tell them your age on your resume.
