Question:

Do you think I should buy a new car?

I passed my test over a year ago and since then I have been driving my mum's car. Recently its been breaking down a lot and everything seems to be going wrong with it.

On top of that it is almost impossible to get parts for it because its and old Rover car (since they went bankrupt there has been a decline in parts and rover qualified mechanics).

So my option is to buy my own car as I will need a reliable one for commuting purposes.

However my mum is reluctant to sell her's even though its on its last legs and the costs will be too much to keep two cars.

Any advice????

  1. Pontiac G5 is cheap and inexpensive to maintain and own.

  2. Yea, You should buy a new NSX Acura

  3. buy a new one or a certified used one.

when you are paying it out the *** all the time to fix stuff on an old car, it isn't worth it.

i just got a beautiful used car, and i love it!

  4. To start off,  there are a lot of options for you to be driving a better car than the one you are currently driving. You can check out on the list of differences between car leasing and car buying.   for instance.

In both ways you would have to pay for the maintenance of the car and take note of the price for the depreciation value. So it would be wiser to think of a car that's affordable yet dependable for you in terms of your needs.

  5. No, buy a decent secondhand car. Less depreciation.

  6. Buying new car is nice if you can afford it  but the depreciation for the first few years is killing.

I would advise buying a good used car of 3 to 4 years old.

I will get a knowledgeable mechanic friend to go with me to check & confirm the car condition before I make the purchase.

Normally , cars will not give problems until after 4 or 5 years.

If you maintain it properly, it should serve you well without too much problem for at least 10 years of the car's life.

Check through websites. There are website that give information about reliability of different made of cars. Some new cars also give a lot of problems !!

  7. Just make sure to not buy brand new because you loose way to much when you drive off the lot.  You can find alot of 2 to 3 year old vehicles that would be dependable and will not loose near as much value as brand new.

  8. Well, try to convince your mom to sell her car. I mean, explain to her whatever u have explained to us here .. find a key lol

Otherwise, buying a new car is a great feeling! No doubt! If u can afford it, then go for it!

Now, if u cant .. then just go for a second hand certified car .. that way at least u know, when u r buying it .. it is less likely to have problems a non-certified would have.

Make sure u know what u want the car for as well - long drives, good a/c, performance ..choosing ur car will depend on all of the above and much more .. some cars are more reliable, some are less.

Ask people, look around .. dont listen much to salesmen lol.. they usually just wanna sell the car .. make sure u r 100% comfortable with the car before u buy it .. u dont buy a car everyday :)

I hope u get it right.

    good luck!

  9. h**l yeah, there's no feeling like a brand new car. I did it once, but the depreciation is a nightmare so never again, but everyone should, if possible, own a brand new car once in their life.

  10. Advice?

    Very simple

    1. buy yourself if you really want which is obvious against your mom's wish.

    2. Convince your mom and happily buy new one after you sell this.

    3. Just drive the present one whatever happens.

  11. Buying a new car at your age = huge disappointment about 3 months into it when you hit something.
