I've been working a CVS ever since April of 2008. My manager does not seem to give me hardly enough hours. I talked to him before and asked how could I improve. He says that I am slow on truck, and then he started comparing me to other employees who I work with. But the problem is he doesn't give me enough truck hours to actually improve. I've only done truck a very few times. Also, I didn't know how to set up the photo machine in the morning. He got mad at me, but I've only been doing the morning shift three times. He never has a meeting with to see how I can improve on the job. I'm about to go to the district manager with my issues with the manager and tell him about it. I tried to get a transfer from my store to a different store, but he told the other managers in the district that I was a good kid, but I did not have it together. That means I won't be able to get a transfer to Creedmoor, or if I do I will get only a few hours again. Do you think I should quit now without having another job lined up for me to start at? This whole situation is so bad.

  1. I would work really hard on finding a new job and getting out of the situation that you are in.  But, for your question I would have to answer - NO, do not quit your job until you have another one lined up. It is much easier to find another job when you are employed - most employers look on that more favorably then you having quit the job and now being unemployed.  You are still making a wage and being able to pay your expenses, so just stick with it until you find something better (will look better on your resume too).

  2. With the economy as bad as it is, I would not quit until you find something.  Some income is better than no income. Soon as you find one, give the manager 2 weeks notice, then go ahead and take the new job.  You never know what may happen, and you want a good leaving terms for the new job.  The only thing employees ask when they call about you working at another location is 1, were you really employed, and maybe 2, how long?

  3. A lot depends on your personal financial position.  Do you have enough money saved to float you through the time period that it may take you to find another one?  In my market, it is taking people on average 6-9 months to find another job, check what it is in your market.  Add up your cost of living expenses, if you have enough in savings to cover them, quit and start looking.  If not, look for another job while you are working at this one.

  4. Well really it is a good idea to line up another job it shows you are responsible and conscientious. Plus when you go fill out another application for a job the application usually asks you why there was a break between jobs. If you write down I just didn't like it and threw in the towel or something like that it shows you are not reliable. So regardless of whether or not you live at home with your parents or if you are on your own, the respectable thing to do is line up a new job and give your 2 week notice. It shows although the job didn't work out you respect your boss and the company. By doing this you are making the job you have now a reference for your self.
