Hey everyone, I'm a foreigner who is soon immigrating to Ottawa for a research position. I would like to find an apartment to rent and I've searched on the internet. However I'm wondering if I should visit the apartment first before deciding to rent. On the other there's the matter of availability and I'm worried I won't find any proper ones by the time I get there in end August. What do you think ?

  1. Search on the Internet first ,decide on some options then visit all before you decide

  2. You don't state where your position is, but if I were you, I'd

stick with a bonafide Rental Co.

Glenview is a good one.  Trust me, don't rent 'privately' over the Internet.

I can see your hurry, so yes, do some investigating, again, sticking with some good property mgt. co.'s.  There are even Agents who can help you do this, if you have the money.  Lots deal with rentals.  And you will get what you're looking for.

Line up a couple of appt.'s, and you can always change your mind later.  I wouldn't rent an apartment without seeing it, because you may be renting alot of problems.

Definitely contact some agents - look up Real Estate Rentals, - they can't be that expensive, it's a one-time fee, and play it safe.  Or stick with good companies.

    Minto's another one.

And make sure it's a good easy commute for you, by bus or by car, so also mention location.

  3. The best thing to do is to use the internet to line up some good options, and then make appointments to see them - you can possibly even see quite a few on the same day if you are organized about it. You never get the same sense of a place from the internet, and there are lots of tricks that can be done with photos. As well, not everything is advertised online, so if you arrive and visit an apartment in an area you really like, look around for other availability signs nearby.

This is not the ideal time of year to be looking for places but there will always be some available, and really not a lot will change in a month.

  4. Use the internet as you will be able to see and get a good description of the actual unit apt and see a map  of the area
