I want to become a doctor when I grow up and I don't want to waste any of my classes because there are a lot of classes that I want to take. So do you think I should take physics in high school? In my high school, here are the types of physics classes:

1. Physics

2. Adv. Physics

3. AP Physics B

  1. That is awesome that you consider to be a doctor. But to be a doctor, you really have to start challenging yourself with classes and a well rounded amount of extracurricular activities. Take the Adv. Physics or AP Physics. If you're really good, consider studying physics for science competitions. Or, towards the end of your junior year, do a research or special project.

  2. I agree with Nick Name. It doesn't really matter what you take in high school as long as you do well (and it isn't ridiculous, like AP Home Economics or something). If you are really worried about it, just take physics. You'll have background in it, but you won't kill yourself with the AP credit. Really, you have plenty of time to become a doctor.

    Good luck.

  3. here's a lil secret, it doesnt matter.

The purpose of high school is to get into college. The only reason to take AP courses is for the college credit. If you wanna be doctor, thats great. But you dont have t make up your mind now. Just focus on getting through high school with a good gpa and you should be fine.

Decide what you want to do later on.

  4. Which physics you take doesn't matter so much as taking a certain number of lab courses in high school.  If you've taken the required lab courses to get into the college you want, then you don't even need physics, like the guys above said - it doesn't matter.

Now, you DO need to pass the physics section of the MCAT, and high school physics won't quite cut it, so you'll need to take at least algebra-based physics in college.  The question is, how do you think you'll do?  You need a solid grounding in algebra, some trig, and to be good at working out problems that require concepts, not memorization.  If you're good at that, then you can just take it in college.  If you think you might have a problem, getting an introduction to it in high school will be useful so college is more of a review.

  5. I would if I were you. You get the college credit but since you are in high school you can get more help from your teacher if you need it. In college, it is sometimes difficult to get help from professors because they have so many students. High school semesters are a bit longer than college semesters, so it spreads it out more and will give you longer to learn the stuff you need to know. I took Anatomy & Physiology in high school and they dumb it down as much as they can.
