Paul Burrell is too in love with himself and his 15 minutes of fame to be obsessed with anyone else.  His loyalty can be bought and he would very quickly latch onto someone else famous if he had the slightest chance.

I think she liked portraying herself as some 'victim' and he was a willing courtier, always ready to listen and offer advice.  I think they used each other for their own gain, neither of them comes across as particularly admirable people
