Do you think Jets are polluting our atmosphere? There are like thousands of flights a day in the USA alone?

  1. Jets pollute more than cars because of radiative forcing. At high altitudes, the effect of greenhouse gases is considerably different than on the ground level. Aircraft also emit water vapor during flight that can cause the formation of ice clouds called contrails. Where contrails persist, cirrus clouds begin to form which have an additional impact on global warming. Clouds can have a double effect on radiation: they warm the earth by reducing the amount of radiation from the earth that escapes into space but also cool the earth by reflecting the sun's rays back into space. However, contrails lead to a net warming factor, about 2.7 times the normal effect.

  2. jets run on kerosene (JET A)  just like a portable radiant heater, if we get rid of jets the entire world economy would stop.

  3. yes, jets contribute in pollution. they have been included in IPCC emission inventor guidleines of 2006. beside CO and CO2, jet also emits NO2 which cause smog.

  4. Jets use Fuel, same as cars but with a higher octane, so pollute the air like crazy because the turbine motors are bigger than the cars, so they consume a lot more than the cars.

A lot of people doesn't know about this, but the companies do, and some of them are offering some options.

It has been tested that carbon (as CO and CO2) is one of the most dangerous elements for atmosphere and is causing that the infrared rays cant go outside of the atmosphere, so they keep in EARTH and continue warming the planet.

In the sense to take out  the carbon of the atmosphere, to trap it, airlines are offering a new option that calls "Eco vacations" or "free flight", the name can change depending of the airlines.

    How this it work?

All the carbon that is released in the air, is trap back for the trees, so the company know how many trees have to plant for you depending where are you going, in that way they will keep the atmosphere free of CO or CO2.

Airplanes save a lot of time for people, so people can make more things and be more efficient to solve the world problems, planting trees maybe is not the best solution, but is a environmentally friendly option for the planet.

  5. To the above:No..... Carbon is the MOST IMPORTANT element to living things.... EVER!!!!! not dangerous....

Elements that are essential for life:

    Carbon

    Hydrogen

    Nitrogen

    Oxygen

    Phosphorus

    Sulfur

Yeah.... And the temperatures around the world are falling... hahahahaha.......

Air travel is a dream and a luxury that should be exploited.

  6. Yes.

ONe of the side-effects of the 9/11 quarantine on flights was that the atmosphere cleared up.  Scientists detected this, and it confirmed that "global dimming" is keeping the planet from heating up so fast as it would without jets.

Atmospheric models have been adjusted, and we still expect warming, just not as fast.

  7. Yes of course, jet exhaust contributes to both global warming and lower atmosphere smog.
