There must already be Western influences over there, and some younger Saudis who would like to see some liberalisation.

Even if it was one part of the Kingdom such as Jeddah. That could make a great holiday resort and financially they could make a lot from tourism if they opened it up to visitors, and allowed it to be more Westernised.

  1. As a Saudi id like it if we exported culture instead of imported it.

However, in the small world we are in.... people tend to mix.. and thats fine.... the west should be open towards us and we should be open towards them... that  translates to not arabizing the west and not westernizing Saudi. When people and cultures mix they will meet somewhere in the middle.

"Liberal" and "open" do not mean westernization.

This is not a Saudi, Arab, or a Muslim thing only by the way...

Its the same thing in China, comparing the "liberal and westernized" Shanghai to the traditional and "real chinese" Bejing.

Bejing people see Shanghai people as people who care about money only and dont honer their values and roots...

Finally, I wonder how "Westernized" is defined, far from alcohol and bikinis, what would the major differences be anyway?

  2. yes.

  3. ......yes, we already felt the gradual change nowadays and hoping to be more open in the future.......first, cellphones without camera is prohibited but now, you can even take pictures in public places; before, even males are required to wear jeans and shirts when roaming the streets but now, you can see many people wearing shorts and sandos in the streets. These are just simple examples to prove that there are changes here.....the country is opening to others now and its a positive change I could say if you know from your heart you have good intentions not bad.....

  4. i think so. saudi is opening up a lot.

  5. well, i encourage Saudi Arabia to open up more but maintain their identity at the same time.

  6. yes i think

if we compare the current situation with the situation of 10 years ago, we'll find lot of positive changes
