All the Lebanese people I have ever met were lovely people.  I don't think they are to be blamed for their present struggles.

No. I think the Great Zionist Experiment is a failed state and without it Lebanon will prosper.

No, not yet.  When I was growing up, Lebanon was presented in my social studies classes as an example of an extremely successful state where the two dominant religions at the time - Christianity and Islam - had found a constitutional way to live in harmony.   I admit to not being very young, but this was not thousands of years ago and it was not before Islam.  (And a couple of decades into having Israel for a neighbor, Lebanon prospered nicely, despite Maya's post below).

Terrible things have happened to Lebanon since, from the invasion of the Palestinians to the invasions of the Israelis to the invasion of the Syrians to the rise of Hezbollah.  But I do not see why Lebanon should not once again be a very successful state when outsiders stop interfering.

Lebanon actually functioned well thousands of years ago.  It was when Islam was introduced that everything got all messed up. A nation famous for its lumber, wine and dairy is now famous for civil war.

If you could tell me what you mean by a "failed state" I would give you and appropriate answer.  Does Lebanon have horrible problems - yes - is it a failure as a nation state - no - I would not go that far based on what I think makes a nation state a nation state.

I think a state is as good as its citizens, and there are many good and intelligent Lebanese in Lebanon - so no. I don't think it is a failed state. Far from it.

A corrupt Government can't be blamed on the people. I guess the people have not failed because they love their country but their Gov. has failed it's people. Guess that can be said for about almost 3/4 of the world though. Peace!

No! We just have a lousy government. And giant racoon that leads a militia that shoots people and takes control over the airport from time to time. And various other militias breeding rapidly. And basically no enforced rules. Assasinations are our forte. And every summer we fight with our neighbors or flirt with the idea of civil war.

but other than all that stuff, its great!
