  1. As an absolute monarch, I'd say yes.  For his time period, certainly.

But I wouldn't say yes for this day and age.

  2. He set the standard for monarchy in his times. However, under the imposing facade, there were many cracks. His revocation of the Edict of Nantes forced the Huguenots, who were some of his most industrious workers and entrepreneurs, to seek asylum in other countries. This had drastic effects on the French economy and enhanced that of Britain. His constant wars drained money and resources from the kingdom that could have been better spent in social programs and infrastructure, as well as losing the lives of many men. His "glory" came at a heavy price for the French nation.

  3. He was a role model for monarchs of the 17th and 18th century. The world of the 21st century needs different monarchs. King Juan Carlos of Spain, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and - yes, of course - Queen Elizabeth II  are much more suitable.

Although French Royalists - about 20 percent of the population - admire King Louis XIV, his reign isn't the preferred Monarchy of present day Royalists in France.
