Do you think MLK's speech is still valid in today's America?

Not so long ago Martin Luther King made a speech that changed America for the better and put us on a promising road for a future filled with freedoms afforded to all Americans.

As we headed for that quest for freedom we all held hands and took a deep breath that the ways of our past would help guide us to the new found joy that civil rights bring in a democracy.

However, with the passing of “The Patriot Act” America has declined to fulfill that promise of freedom and has instead sanitized the war, world disasters and even an attack on our own countries soil.

They have pulled out the seams of this country so that what was once a tightly knit democracy has now become became loose and frayed. She almost certainly will come unraveled and lose her soft satin lining once custom tailored to permit industries rough edges to be worn casually.

  1. You know, there are still recordings of his speech today. And if you hear it you'll feel moved. Dr. King put his whole soul into that speech. And I don't think anybody heard him. It seems that America took five steps forward and two steps back. it seems that this recession is affecting more then just our economy but our selves.

      I have a dream that one day Martin Luther King Jr. would be seen for the man he really is. He didn't just fight for black people. He fought for every culture, he took  a stand for all people and all minoritie's. Back then, it wasn't just black people  living in America. Chinese people, spanish people, all people of color were treated unfairly and segergated. MLK fought for all of them with his words and not his fists. He knew that defeating your eneimes with success was the best way to win a fight.

      I wish that I can walk down the street and not be racaially profiled one day. I wish i can by a rock record and not be called white. I wish that sterotypes were abolished someday. I wish that Carlos Mencia will shut the h**l up for a change. I wish that people understood  not all black people are the same and started understanding that like with every culture there is a good and bad batch, But, that doesn't make us all bad.

    So yeah, i could keep wishin' and hopin' and prayin'. Right now there is only some things that we as a people together can do. And I wish that people will someday realize that If we stopped looking at peoples color's rather then their person, then we could move mountains.

  2. Of course MLK's speech is still valid in today's America. The problem is that America rapidly backsliding instead of moving forward - proof that we need to uphold MLK's values as projected in his Dream speech even moreso today.

  3. It may be,since there seems to be less and less people in this country with any character at all.But I have a dream as well.I dream that one day blacks will stop blaming whitey for keeping them down.I dream that they will cast off the welfare mentality and the cultural chains that keep them dwelling in poverty and the culture of gang violence and profanity and degradation.I dream that they will realize that there is no "black" church,but only the church that Christ will recognize.One without color or national boundries.I dream that they will start listening to the message of Dr.King and men like Bill Cosby who want the babies to grow up with fathers to rely on and love.

    And I dream mexicans will one day stand up and take their country back from the crooked politicians and drug cartels and realize that they have a beautiful country.I dream that they will no longer feel they have to flee over our border illegally,instantly becoming criminals.I dream that one day mexicans that are here will be anxious to get back into mexico,so they can have their babies at home.I dream that they can have a nation to be proud of .

    And I dream that Megan Fox,Jessica Biel,or perhaps Evangeline Lilly would wake me for breakfast in bed.Then we could maybe get something to eat.But hey,I am dreaming,remember?

  4. Obviously not!

    He looked forward to a day when a person was judged on the content of their character and not the color of their skin.

    Judging what happened in the primaries, this is exactly the opposite of what happened.  Over 90% of the black vote in the south was for Obama, and together with Oprah, it was solely because of the Color of his Skin;

    it could not possibly be the content of his character because he lied every day, in every way and smeared a truly decent person in order to gain votes.

    As a life long Democrat, now a registered independent, I am sick to my stomach at what the Clown Howard Dean and the DNC allowed to happen to Sen. Clinton and the Dem. Party.  I will never gain give my vote to a failed candidate like Obama.
