  3. Girl*

  4. girl..

    deffinatly.

  5. I guess it;s whatever you want but I think people generaly think of it a girls name.  It's my daughters middle name with no e at the end thought!

  6. There's a McKenzie just up the street and she's a girl.

  7. As many of the other responders have stated: Any name with that begins with 'mac' refers to a boy -- because it means "son of..."

However, the data/statistics of the name show that it is used more for girls than boys.

According to babynamer.com (which counts all spellings of a name as one), Mackenzie was ranked 43rd in popularity for females of all ages according to the 2000-2003 Social Security Administration statistics. It also stated that Mackenzie was ranked 1658th for all females in the 1990 U. S. Census. However, the site does consider Mackenzie a unisex name. Here's the link:

You can also check this site to visually see (in graph form) the difference in the usage of this name for boys/girls. Just type in the name at the top & the graph will come up (pink for girls - blue for boys).

I hope this helps you and your husband come to a conclusion.

  8. I've never met a boy named Mackenzie, so to me it's all girl. I know it's traditionally a boys name, but since it's been so very popular with girls, I would only use it for a girl. To make it more feminine, I'd take out the c and just spell it Makenzie. Best of luck!

  9. Doesn't matter what anyone thinks it is.  More like what it sounds like.  And it sounds like a boy's name.

  10. Boy. It's a surname, it's masculine, as are all MAC names. A Mac name on a little girl is cruel.

  11. Mackenzie's my last name!

I think it can go either way, but I prefer it as a girls name.

  12. either or. i knew a girl named mackenzie, but i've also heard it used as a boy's name.

  13. mack is the guy name but if u add an "zie" it becomes a girly name

  14. It's a surname and like most surnames, is often used for both boys and girls. As of late the name is frequently used for girls.

  15. All "mac"/"mc" names are surnames. It means "son of...". It was popular in the middle ages to call someone John, son of Kenneth. The "son of" bit was used as a last name, because they didn't have real last names at that time. In Gaelic the "son of" is said "Mac." So MacKenzie, means "son of Kenneth."

This is also how names like Jackson, Maddison, Addison, and Harrison got common. The "son" on the end means "Jack's son", "Matthew's son", "Adam's son", or "Harry's son."

So they are definitly boy's names, it's just that people thought they were "cute" and started using them for girls.

  16. It was definitely a boy's name first. I love it for a boy!

  17. It is definitely a boy's name.  "Mac" means "son of."

  18. Either one I would think

  19. GIRL definitely i love that name though its beautiful

  20. Girl name.

  21. Girl name

  22. girl completely feminine

  23. I think its more for a girl but I also think its unisex.
