Do you think Major League Baseball will ever start drafting woman ball players?

There are so many women in the world with great talent. Just look at the softball games on ESPN or ABC. They will have to learn a new style of pitching, but they can still swing a bat really good.

   The teams only care about winning.  Anyone (male or female) who can contribute to that end, will get their interest.

Did you see the movie "A league of Their Own"? Based on a story during 1943 when the Male Base Ball Pros were at war during WWII. I don't know if it is actually based on true facts or completely fictional. My mom who was in her late teens during this period claims it is based on true facts.

it would be awesome if they did. i used to play baseball myself up until i was about 16. i hated softball. what sucked was the fact that my middle and high school refused to allow girls on the team which made me try out for softball...it was bad. girls at that age are to catty. baseball is so much better =]

you can't really mix the 2 genders professionally.  In softball, women pitch about 60-70 mph while in baseball they would have to hit 90-100 mph.  In science, it is proven that men are usually stronger then women so in order for women to compete with the best, they would have to work twice as hard, which im sure only a few people would do.

Most softball games I see end 2-1 or 1-0, and that's with 60 MPH pitches and a 200 ft. wall.

Send them to the majors with 90 MPH pitches and 330 ft. walls, they would have no chance in h**l.

Pssh, no they cant play.  Haha Im just kidding, yeah I know, some softball girls kick ***.  Its kinda weird to watch when they do lol, but most people with the talent are used to playing softball, and in baseball many things change they'd be sort of out of there element with rules, the smaller ball, and different shaped bat and stuff.

There was a woman drafted once.

In 1993, the White Sox drafted Carey Schueler in the 43rd round. Carey is the daughter of White Sox then-GM Ron Schueler. She never signed (obviously), and it was primarily a publicity stunt. (This was, however, not the last round of the draft.)

Legend holds that Schueler did this as a way of metaphorically backhanding Sox catcher Carlton Fisk by not drafting his son and taking his own daughter instead. Fisk and Schueler didn't get along well at that point, Fisk being on his last, and very shaky, legs as a player. He was released a short time later, days after setting the record for games caught.

If there was a woman out there that was good enough to make it in pro baseball, there would be a bigger fight for her than any man out there.  She'd have a higher demand than A-Rod would if he was looking for a league minimum contract.  

ANY team that had a woman that could compete would get such a huge publicity windfall, and would get so many new fans everywhere, that if there were any out there close, you'd know about it

What interesting question. I think they would never do that. Baseball does not seem lie a unisex sport like tennis or golf. and even in those sports women play against women.

whether women like it or not it is a biological fact that in many areas we are not built the same so it would be hard for most women to compete fairly
