I'm not really sure how to justify having the p4p king fighting the same two people for two straight years(at least that's the way it looks)and neither is actually rated in the Welterweight weight class. I just can't see having no penalty for doing that, but that's what's happened so far with Floyd. I definetely don't think he deserves to be rated #1 in his weight class........ no way to justify that if he doesn't fight the best in the division.......

  1. If Mayweather would have stayed out of the welterweight division, and fought no higher than 140 lbs, he would have been a lock to maintain upper echelon, even historical greatness.  Floyd actually harmed his legacy by venturing into the higher weight classes and avoiding the best welterweights.  This no knock on Floyd as a boxer he is gifted, but in boxing a "champion" fights the best available, and at welterweight and above Floyd hasn't done this.

I just finished watching Margarito out slug Cintron, and the fluid grace and ease with which Cotto switched from conventional to south paw and back in his destruction of Gomez.   When you take into account Cotto's wins over Judah and Mosley, I have to seriously question Floyd's committement to boxing at all.  Lets face it, 20 million aside, the wrestling stunt was well paid foolishness to most boxing pundits.  I am from Michigan, and a huge Mayweather fan, but truth be told, NO, I don't think Floyd deserves the mythical rank of boxing's best.  Cotto might have just edged Floyd out by virtue of his continued improvment over the past year.

Clearly the winner of Cotto/Margarito will be the best welterweight in the world.  Whether that makes them boxing's best will be determined if and when the winner of that one GIVES MAYWEATHER A FIGHT.  The manner in which Floyd promotes himself does not leave the impression that he is all that interesting in boxing any real serious opponents.  I think Mayweather forfieted that status, nobody took it from him.

The P4P best gets there beating the best fighters out there and Mayweather hasn't done that in the welterweigth divison.  I don't think Floyd will ever fight a serious welterweight, Mayweather should retire right now, nobody is impressed with any more of Floyd's multi-million dollar paydays.  Until Mayweather takes on a real welter weight, I consider Cotto the P4P best right now, and without a doubt Cotto/Margarito is a better matchup than Cotto/Mayweather.   Margarito is clearly a much bigger threat to Cotto than Mayweather, and Cotto didn't hesitate to take the fight.  Champions don't duck competition.

Enough of the media love affair with Floyd, he hasn't fought a serious threat since Castillo, and I for one have lost interest in him.  The welter weight division is fine without Mayweather.

You actually have to face some challenges on a yearly basis to maintain the respect of boxing purists, and Floyd has just about exhausted his dominance at the lower weights.  I think Mayweather is at best unproven at welterweight, and untill he takes on a young talented welterweight, I think the P4P argument is lost on Floyd.  Yesterday is gone, tommorrow doesn't exist and today Cotto is the P4P best until Margarito takes it away from him.  Mayweather is yesterdays news.

  2. He's  undefeated and he looks like the best boxer as far as skills and style,  but his opponents have not been special.  I think  the P4P title is for the taking if guys step up and fight everybody while Mayweather goofs off in the WWE.

  3. I think its safe for now, he's fighting about as much as the top guys do - his last fight was an impressive win in knocking out the previously undefeated Hatton, while not as impressive as Cotto beating Mosely, you can't just move a guy down a spot after a 10 rounds of excellent showing ending with a knockout.

If he fights De la Hoya again, and its close again (which it will be) I don't think you can justify keeping him in the top slot, even a lopsided decision really doesn't add to anything at this point.  If Cotto beats Margarito and Pacman takes out a world class lightweight I couldn't imagine Floyd keeping the top slot...pound for pound is very much defined as at that moment, not based as heavily on past accomplishments.  If he fights Oscar again, the only way he'll impress real boxing fans is by really dominating him, and with the fights Cotto and Pac are putting on it will probably have to be a knockout - the first to do it to Oscar south of 160.

  4. Yes, he WOULD deserve it if he actually BOXED once in a while.  Dancing with the Stars and WWE for exposure and extra cash don't impress me.  Pacquiao tried to run for office in the Phillipines. . . . that doesn't sit well with me either.

    Box or leave. . . . that's my policy.

  5. I agree he fought some great fighters but i don't consider the golden boy and hatton fightersw that put you in p4p. manny, calzaghe are fighting real competition regardless of their records. floyd is one of the top 5 fighters in the world, but a rematch with 2 easy fights he really hasn;'t gained anything but popularity and a paycheck

  6. You would wounder why? you are not alone. Its an insult to the fans these promoters going for the big money. They know that DLH is the money maker that fans want to see win, and Floyd is the money maker that fans want to see get beat up.

I personally not buying into these rematches. Paquiao and Marquez yes. But DLH vs Fraud is just there to make suckers out of us and take our lunch money. People wake up.

Professional Boxing was a sport that was unique because the blood was real. Now I don't know. Its looking more like the WWF.

  7. He has done great accomplishments, but not in the Welterweight Division.

    Who has he beaten

An overrated Hatton, Zab Judah, an Old Arturo Gatti, he didn't prove to be better than De La Hoya.

The welterweight Division is hot right now, and if he is the best, he should be taking advantage of that. He says he wants to be called one of the all-time greats, will show us that you are better than all the Welterweights. He should be facing Mosley, Margarito, Cotto, and even Cintron.

If he doesn't take advantage of that Cotto will be seating on his seat very soon, that is the P4P king seat.

  8. Of Course not. I mean maybe 2 years ago the anwser would be diffrent but fighting has beens and fighters that arent even

in the same divison for the past 2 years is easy.......

I recently read in the paper that Floyd has another hidden talent, He is a singer. He plans to be in the next season of

    American Idol......

2009 American Idol Floyd mayweather....best news i heard today.....
