Do you think McCain picked Palin himself or was he told to?

For only meeting her one time and not really knowing her, do you think he was told from within who to choose or was this really his decision. In July he said he would choose the person that would be ready do be president if something were to happen to him.

this selection has karl rove written all over it, rove knows the only way for a republican to win is to get the support of the fundamentalists, this is exactly what he did by selecting a pro-life creationist.
